Schneider comes to the cage accompanied by Pompeii. Mark Schneider has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Aleksander Emelianenko!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Konstantin Menshow and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Schneider clinches up against the cage.
Schneider drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Emelianenko gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Schneider pulls guard successfully.
Schneider utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Emelianenko trying to control the position from guard on top but Schneider is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Emelianenko thows a big elbow that misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Emelianenko is looking to stand up but Schneider won't let him.

Emelianenko drops back, looking for a kneebar! Schneider looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Schneider looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Schneider!

Schneider is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Emelianenko is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Emelianenko can't do much from the bottom here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Schneider trying to control the action but Emelianenko is working from the bottom.
Schneider works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Emelianenko is trying to control but can't.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Emelianenko gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Schneider to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Schneider is looking to work some ground and pound but Emelianenko has wrist control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Schneider throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Emelianenko plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!

Schneider is fighting off a takedown attempt but Emelianenko is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Schneider to the mat. Schneider regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Emelianenko is trying to hold Schneider in close to prevent damage but Schneider has managed to pass into half guard.

Schneider wants to work for an arm triangle but Emelianenko is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Emelianenko tries to get to full guard but Schneider has control of the leg.

Emelianenko makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Mark Schneider is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Schneider is nestled in close to Emelianenko, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Emelianenko is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Schneider scores with a couple of nice shots.
Schneider is thwarting Emelianenko's attempts to control the position.
Schneider lands strikes from half guard.
Schneider looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Schneider changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Emelianenko looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
