PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jesse Tank (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kane Savage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Kane Savage was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jesse Tank!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kane Savage!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Tiny Johnson and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Savage fails with an attempt to clinch.

Savage gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Tank in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Tank with a flurry of punches that miss.
Savage wants to stand and escape but Tank is having none of it.
Tank has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Savage looking to hit a scissor sweep but Tank is one step ahead there.
Savage trying to keep a closed guard but Tank is proving a slippery customer.
Tank trying to control but Savage is working from the bottom.

Savage working for a triangle but Tank defends it easily.
Tank postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Savage is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Tank is aware though and is defending well.
Tank might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Savage is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Savage wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Tank distracts Savage with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Tank with a nice head shot there.
Tank postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Savage is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Savage is controlling Tank's posture.
Tank is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Savage controls Tank momentarily but Tank frees himself.
Tank is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Tank is breathing heavily.
Savage not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Savage is on top in guard.
Savage trying to control the position from guard on top but Tank is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Savage wanted to stand there but Tank had control of the position.

Tank utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Savage wants to pass the guard but Tank is keeping the position.
Savage trying to control but Tank is working from the bottom.
Tank keeping full guard, as Savage tries to pass.
Savage is looking to work some ground and pound but Tank has wrist control.
Tank has a closed guard, preventing Savage from standing up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Savage doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Tank counters with a shoot takedown. Savage fights it but they end up in guard.
Savage controls Tank momentarily but Tank frees himself.
Tank trying to control the position from guard on top but Savage is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Tank got a little sloppy there for a moment and Savage has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Tank has managed to get both his arms back between Savage's legs - danger averted.
Savage looking for a sweep. Not yet Savage, not yet.
Savage seems keen to control Tank's posture.
Tank throwing strikes from guard but Savage blocks nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jesse Tank dominated that round.
That's time! Tank's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Tank shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Savage napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Savage manages to get back to half guard.

Savage actively working from the bottom here.
Savage wants to improve his position but Tank is controlling well.
Tank thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Savage moves into full guard.
Savage is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Savage is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Savage wants to stand but Tank has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Savage is looking for a kimura here.
Tank is trying to get back to full guard.
Savage trying to control the action but Tank is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Savage not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Savage wants to pass to mount but Tank is defending the position.
Savage uses his free foot to push down on Tank's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Tank.
Savage looking to control but Tank is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Savage misses with a head shot.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Savage thowing shots but they're missing.
Savage throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Savage trying to control but Tank is having none of it.
Tank is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Savage tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Savage thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Tank is looking to improve his position but Savage isn't that keen on the idea.
Savage looking to control but Tank is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Savage looking to finish Tank with some ground and pound. This is bad for Tank!
Savage is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Savage wants to stand but Tank is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Savage trying to control but Tank is having none of it.
Savage throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Tank because Savage loaded up on that one.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kane Savage showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Savage with a poor takedown

and Tank counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Savage's guard now.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Savage shoots in for a takedown but Tank shows good takedown defense.
Savage tries to clinch there but Tank circles away.
Savage keeps the fight on the outside.

Savage shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Tank manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Tank keeping moving, preventing Savage from controlling successfully.
Savage stays in close to Tank's body and controls the position.
Tank looking to hit a scissor sweep but Savage is one step ahead there.
Tank knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Savage on the ground.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Savage gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Savage is defended easily by Tank.
Jesse Tank has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kane Savage.
Savage shoots for a takedown but Tank saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Tank lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
The referee is keeping an eye on Tank - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Savage jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Tank walks away with a smile on his face. Savage gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Savage misses with a wild body shot.
Savage shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Tank as he jumps to the side.
Jesse Tank is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Tank tries to score a power double leg takedown but Savage sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Tank somewhat.
Savage doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Tank counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Savage gets full guard.
Tank scoring with punches to the head and body.
Tank trying to control the position from guard on top but Savage is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Tank postures up.
Savage is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Tank stops Savage from standing up.
Tank showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Savage keeping moving, preventing Tank from controlling successfully.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Savage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jesse Tank showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Tank has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
