PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nicholas Clarionous (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Villar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nicholas Clarionous!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chris Villar!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Clarionous.
Clarionous throws a series of punches but Villar moves out of range.

Villar shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Clarionous manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Villar throwing strikes from guard but Clarionous blocks nicely.
Villar would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Clarionous is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Clarionous is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Villar defends well.
Villar must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Villar postures up in Clarionous's guard and throws a big left but Clarionous blocks it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Villar stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Clarionous swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Villar is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Villar slips nicely into half guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Clarionous regains full guard. Nicely done.
Clarionous is adopting a defensive guard.

Clarionous is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Villar defends well.
Clarionous is breathing heavily.
Villar wants to control from the top but Clarionous keeps moving.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Clarionous has his hands on Villar's head, controlling the position.

Nicholas Clarionous seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Clarionous drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Clarionous creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Villar sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Villar tries to bench press Clarionous off him but Clarionous keeps the position.

Clarionous stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Villar throws a push kick but Clarionous slaps the foot to one side.
Clarionous tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Villar tries to score a power double leg takedown but Clarionous sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Villar somewhat.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Villar tries to close the distance and clinch but Clarionous swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

so Villar counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Villar passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Clarionous regains half guard, as Villar was trying to land strikes.

Clarionous wants to improve his position but Villar is controlling well.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Clarionous is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Villar pulls his head out easily.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Villar shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Clarionous drops back looking for a leg! Villar is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Villar manages to kick Clarionous off! Clarionous jumps back into Villar's guard.

Villar utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Nicholas Clarionous has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Chris Villar is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Villar gets off balance looking for a body kick
and Clarionous counters with a head kick. That will keep Villar thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Nicholas Clarionous showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Villar has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
