PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Max Zero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Animal Mother (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Zero kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is José the Bronx Rican - Spittin' Narcicism. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Animal Mother!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Hugh Johnson and Damien Edna.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zero throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Mother gets caught flat footed, as Zero shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Zero in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Zero thows a big elbow that misses.
Zero sitting in guard here, content to control.
Mother keeping moving, preventing Zero from controlling successfully.

Zero postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Mother is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Zero, into his guard.

Zero had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Mother defends it easily.

Zero is looking for a triangle here but Mother uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Zero regains half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Zero tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Zero tries to roll over but Mother keeps him under control.

Zero is looking for a triangle but Mother pushes his legs off easily.

Zero seems keen to control Mother's posture.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Zero looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Mother passes into side control.

Zero is trying to improve his position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Max Zero dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Zero shoots in but Mother avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Zero tries to clinch up but Mother circles away and keeps his distance.

Mother tries to circle away but Zero has him pinned against the cage.

Zero has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Mother uses from the top position.
Zero is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Zero seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Mother wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Zero.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Zero cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

It looks like Animal Mother has been cut.
Zero unloads with some shots from mount but Mother bucks and avoids them well.
Zero sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Mother blocking the ground and pound.

Zero working for a submission but Mother is keeping him at bay.
Zero throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Mother because Zero loaded up on that one.

Zero tries to control but Mother wriggling away.
Zero fails to take his opponent's back.
Zero breaks from Mother's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Mother wants to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Zero sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Zero here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Mother wants to get back to his feet.
Zero fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Zero has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Zero throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Mother wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Zero.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Max Zero dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Animal Mother's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Zero gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Zero drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Mother gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Zero keeps control of Mother as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Zero is working for takedown but Mother is calmly controlling the position for now.
Zero tries for a takedown but Mother manages to get underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Max Zero. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Zero breaks the clinch.
Zero shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Zero misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Mother misses with a wild combination.
Mother throws a right and a left that Zero avoids nicely.
Zero tries to clinch up but Mother circles away and keeps his distance.
Zero tries a head kick but it misses.

Zero shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Mother is trying to defend but Zero finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Zero wants to take a breather but Mother is having none of it.

Mother won't allow Zero to pass to mount.

Zero looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Mother is not content to let Zero control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Max Zero overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Zero is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Zero trying to control the action but Mother is working from the bottom.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Mother waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Zero.
Zero tries to clinch up but Mother circles away and keeps his distance.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Zero is defended easily by Mother.
The fight stays on the outside here - Zero looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Zero looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Zero shoots in but Mother avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Mother swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Animal Mother has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Mother misses with a double jab.
A combination from Mother does no damage.
Zero shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Mother pinned against the cage. Mother gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Zero will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Zero shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mother as he jumps to the side.
Zero shoots in but no luck this time.
Mother misses with a jab, cross combination.
Mother looks to land a combination. Zero sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

It looks like Max Zero has been cut.
Mother throws a right hand that Zero ducks under and follows up with a left that Zero also avoids with ease.
Mother misses with a series of wild punches.
Mother misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Max Zero is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Animal Mother comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
