Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Coronel Avas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chicharito Velasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chicharito Velasquez has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Coronel Avas! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Chicharito Velasquez! The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Damien Edna and Bruno Hogan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Velasquez slips a jab and a cross from Avas.
Velasquez gets a takedown into half guard. Velasquez seems to be looking for submissions.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Velasquez thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Velasquez has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Velasquez stalling. Velasquez throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
That's one minute gone in the round. Avas is not content to let Velasquez control the position. Velasquez wants to pass to mount but Avas is defending the position. Avas is trying to stand back up but Velasquez is controlling him
Velasquez lands strikes from half guard. Avas really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Avas is refusing to be controlled, as Velasquez sits in half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Velasquez throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Velasquez content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Velasquez is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Velasquez misses with a head shot.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Velasquez landing strikes, looking to finish! Velasquez controlling his opponent. Velasquez looking to ground and pound but Avas is blocking nicely. Velasquez looking to secure an arm triangle but Avas defends it well. Avas avoids a series of strikes thrown by Velasquez.
Avas knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Velasquez on the ground.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Poor strikes thrown by Velasquez there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Velasquez punching from mount but Avas doing a good job of avoiding damage. Avas is squirming around, avoiding Velasquez's attempts to control the action. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Velasquez throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Avas because Velasquez loaded up on that one. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Chicharito Velasquez dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Avas misses with the combination.
Avas fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Velasquez checks it well. Velasquez shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Velasquez was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Velasquez takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Velasquez throwing shots from mount but they're not landing. Avas defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Velasquez. Velasquez controlling from mount.
That's one minute gone in the round. Avas taking shots to the head. Velasquez throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Avas because Velasquez loaded up on that one. Velasquez thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Velasquez looking to control and managing it successfully. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Velasquez is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Avas can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Velasquez trying to control but Avas is having none of it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Velasquez unloads with some shots from mount but Avas bucks and avoids them well.
The referee warns Avas that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Velasquez jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Avas manages to avoid the submission attempt. Avas is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Velasquez asserts his dominance and retains side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Velasquez throws an elbow but Avas slips to the side and avoids it well. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Velasquez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Avas keeps working. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Chicharito Velasquez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Avas's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!
Avas connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Velasquez's hands. Velasquez clinches. Velasquez tries to pull guard but Avas holds him up against the cage and eventually Velasquez drops back down to his feet.
Velasquez can't get the takedown.
Velasquez fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Coronel Avas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chicharito Velasquez. Velasquez is trying to drag Avas to the mat but Avas just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Velasquez has Avas pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Avas manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Avas can't break the clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Velasquez has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Avas uses from the top position. Velasquez takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Velasquez looking to control.

Velasquez tries to land a sweep but no joy.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Velasquez trying to control the position.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Avas dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Avas lands with a nice combination. Velasquez backs away looking to recover. Avas connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Velasquez momentarily.
Avas lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Avas. Avas throws a right hand that Velasquez ducks under and follows up with a left that Velasquez also avoids with ease. Avas misses with the combination.
Velasquez fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Avas sprawls well initially but Velasquez persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Velasquez with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Velasquez thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Avas's head. Velasquez lands with a punch from half guard. Velasquez controlling the action here. Velasquez missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Avas keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Coronel Avas has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Ground and pound from Velasquez. Velasquez is taking a breather. Avas says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Chicharito Velasquez is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Velasquez's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Coronel Avas. I think Velasquez has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
