Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gracie Jitsu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Filipe Melo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Gracie Jitsu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Filipe Melo!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Shigeki Fujiwara and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jitsu misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Jitsu punishes Melo's body with a nice straight punch.

Melo clinches with his opponent.

Melo ties up his opponent against the ropes and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Melo no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Jitsu got a little sloppy there for a moment and Melo has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Jitsu has managed to get both his arms back between Melo's legs - danger averted.

Melo escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jitsu gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Jitsu loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Jitsu is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Jitsu trying to control but Melo is working from the bottom.

Jitsu stands up from Melo's guard - Jitsu perhaps looking for a knockout.
Jitsu lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Melo circles away quickly and effectively.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Melo swats away the attempt to clinch by Jitsu.
Melo tries to close the distance and clinch but Jitsu swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Melo throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Jitsu has taken the fight to the clinch.

Melo pulls Jitsu into guard.

Jitsu drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Jitsu jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Jitsu slips nicely into half guard.

Melo actively working from the bottom here.
Jitsu wants to lay and pray for a moment but Melo keeps working.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Melo moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Jitsu drops back looking for a leg! Melo is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Melo manages to kick Jitsu off! Jitsu jumps back into Melo's guard.
Jitsu trying to control but Melo is working from the bottom.

Melo isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Jitsu stacks Melo on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Jitsu!
Sloppy strikes there by Jitsu.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Melo tries to bench press Jitsu off him but Jitsu keeps the position.
Jitsu connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Melo some visible discomfort.
Melo seems a little lost for a moment, as Jitsu dominates the positioning.
Jitsu is looking to take a break and control but Melo is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Jitsu landing a few strikes.
Melo is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Jitsu seems to be working for a kimura but Melo defends the submission attempt.
Melo is looking for a sweep. Jitsu is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Melo moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Melo has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Jitsu can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Melo looks gassed!
Jitsu lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Jitsu trying to control the position from guard on top but Melo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Melo is looking for a triangle but Jitsu pushes his legs off easily.
Jitsu trying to control but Melo is working from the bottom.

That's five minutes gone in the round.

Melo has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Jitsu doesn't defend quickly enough and Melo has managed to lock this one up! Can Jitsu escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Melo on a fantastic submission victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 5:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Filipe Melo!
