PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Noel James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jacoby Wilcox (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). James comes to the cage accompanied by Whats New pussy Cat by Tom Jones. Wilcox has chosen Danger: Wildman as his entrance music. The key to victory for Noel James has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Noel James!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Jacoby Wilcox!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Donald Grub and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wilcox displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as James throws out the jab.

Wilcox closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
James is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Wilcox seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but James does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wilcox seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Wilcox winds up and cracks James with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
James is looking for a sweep. Wilcox is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Wilcox thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed James's head.
Wilcox keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
James won't allow Wilcox to pass to mount.

Wilcox is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
The fighters are battling for position here. James manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
James wants to sweep but no luck.
Wilcox throws a strike but James rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
James working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
James won't allow Wilcox to sweep him here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
James throws a hook but Wilcox blocks it.
The fight stays on the outside here - Wilcox looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Wilcox shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Wilcox wants to pass the guard but James is keeping the position.
James has Wilcox pulled in close to control his posture.

James tries to land a sweep but no joy.
James keeping moving, preventing Wilcox from controlling successfully.
James looking to hit a scissor sweep but Wilcox is one step ahead there.
Wilcox wants to pass the guard but James is keeping the position.
James is pulling down on Wilcox's head to control his posture.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Wilcox working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Wilcox moves forwards but James connects with a nice, crisp jab.
James throws a big shot that misses.
James throws a right hand that Wilcox ducks under and follows up with a left that Wilcox also avoids with ease.

James gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Wilcox drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Wilcox jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Wilcox stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. James swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jacoby Wilcox dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


James avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Wilcox misses with a takedown attempt - James sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
James throws a lazy right hand but Wilcox sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Wilcox fails with an attempt to clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wilcox tries to score a power double leg takedown but James sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Wilcox somewhat.
James scores to the head and body with a nice combination!


It looks like Jacoby Wilcox has been cut.
Noel James is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

James misses with a looping right.
James misses with a series of wild punches.
Wilcox tries to clinch up but James circles away and keeps his distance.
James lands a nice shot that snaps Wilcox's head back.
Wilcox takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Noel James seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Wilcox ducks under a wild hook from James.
Wilcox has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Wilcox there as he acknowledges the shot.

James throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Wilcox shoots for a double leg takedown but James sprawls well. He's pushed Wilcox's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Noel James has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jacoby Wilcox.
Wilcox lands with a good body shot.
James throws a right hand that Wilcox ducks under and follows up with a left that Wilcox also avoids with ease.
Wilcox tries for a takedown but James sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

The fighters circle momentarily. James darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Wilcox tries to close the distance and clinch up but James swats him away and circles back towards the center.

James throws a right and a left that Wilcox avoids nicely.

James throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Wilcox tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
James throws an overhand right that lands on Wilcox's shoulder, as Wilcox tries to avoid the shot.
James leaves Wilcox with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

James lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Wilcox circles away quickly and effectively.
James tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Wilcox was well out of range. Poor timing from James.

James throws a shot from downtown. Wilcox moves away and avoids it.
No luck for Wilcox with that takedown attempt.
Wilcox sizes up James with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
James looks to throw the jab but Wilcox is out of range.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
James missing with a left hand there. Wilcox was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Wilcox fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt James.
James is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
James will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Wilcox feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Wilcox loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Wilcox is looking to clinch but James is avoiding it.
Wilcox changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. James tries to avoid it but Wilcox manages to keep hold of a leg and drag James to the ground. James escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Noel James has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jacoby Wilcox.
James throws a right and a left that both miss.
James throws a jab but it's blocked by Wilcox.
James lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Wilcox circles away quickly and effectively.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Nice uppercut lands for James. That snapped Wilcox's head back.
Wilcox misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jacoby Wilcox comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Wilcox has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
