Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Riam Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Caesar Cortez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Riam Gracie! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Caesar Cortez! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Edson Gomes and Alexandre Firmino.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cortez closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Gracie tries to circle away but Cortez has him pinned against the cage. Cortez's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Gracie is looking to take this fight into the clinch. A jab from Gracie finds it's way through Cortez's defenses. Cortez wants to clinch but Gracie slips to the side and Gracie counters with a single leg into guard. Cortez didn't expect that. Gracie postures up.
Gracie knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Cortez on the ground. Gracie is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Cortez manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Gracie manages to get himself to full guard.
Gracie scrambles and gets back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gracie throws a right and a left that both miss. Gracie fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Cortez avoids it really well and circles away. Caesar Cortez is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Gracie misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Gracie misses with a jab, cross combination.
Gracie shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Cortez as he jumps to the side. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Riam Gracie. That's going to take a lot out of him. Cortez slaps away a takedown attempt from Gracie, before circling back to the center of the mat. A combination from Cortez does no damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Cortez dodges the punch combination from Gracie.
Cortez looks to score with a jab to the body but Gracie is just out of range. Gracie shoots in looking for a takedown. Cortez tries to sprawl out of it but Gracie keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Cortez manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Gracie throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Cortez was covering up waiting for the punch and Gracie finishes the takedown easily into guard. Cortez controls Gracie momentarily but Gracie frees himself. Gracie stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cortez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gracie stopping the sweep attempt from Cortez. Cortez keeping full guard, as Gracie tries to pass. Cortez is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Gracie won't allow Cortez to sweep him here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Cortez is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Cortez looks gassed!
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Gracie looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Gracie closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Gracie lands in his opponent's guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cortez wants to sweep but no luck. Cortez looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Riam Gracie dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Gracie throws a combination. Cortez tries to block but a couple of punches get through. Gracie bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Gracie moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now. Cortez is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Gracie has just dragged him back down to the mat. Gracie takes a little break here. Cortez wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. Cortez is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gracie has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Riam Gracie. Cortez tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Riam Gracie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Gracie tries to clinch and Cortez counters with a good low kick that Gracie was not able to check. Gracie fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Some wild striking there from Cortez.
Gracie shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Cortez's guard. Gracie has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gracie is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Cortez trying to control the position.
Cortez might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Gracie kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Gracie stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cortez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gracie controls from within his opponent's guard. Cortez working a defensive guard here.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Gracie content to stall in guard here. Cortez thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. Cortez wants to stand and escape but Gracie is having none of it. Gracie is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Riam Gracie dominated that second round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!
Gracie feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Gracie pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Cortez is keeping the position for now. Cortez being controlled here, momentarily. Cortez wants to get back to his feet but Gracie is in a dominant position and won't allow it. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Cortez is on top in guard.
Cortez takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cortez trying to control but Gracie is working from the bottom. Gracie is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Cortez is controlling him. Cortez landing with the ground and pound. Gracie has his feet on Cortez's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. Gracie darts in trying to clinch and Cortez counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Gracie is lucky that one didn't land flush.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Cortez tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Gracie paws at him with a jab and circles away. Gracie fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Gracie shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Cortez's guard. Gracie is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Gracie's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

and Cortez counters with a left to the body. Gracie moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. Nice uppercut there from Gracie. Riam Gracie is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Gracie rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Cortez moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Gracie fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Cortez, pushing him back against the cage. Gracie trying to control the position but instead, Cortez has worked for underhooks and has pushed Gracie into the cage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Gracie lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Cortez wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Cortez is trying to force a seperation but Gracie has the dominant position. Gracie lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Cortez or not. Gracie digs a right hand into Cortez's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Cortez's gas tank. Gracie throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Cortezs head. Gracie fails to pull the fight into his guard.
A short body shot lands from Gracie as the two fighters clinch.
Gracie has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Cortez is trying to keep an underhook but Gracie manages to get the takedown into half guard. Gracie controlling the action here. Cortez tries to roll over but Gracie keeps him under control.
And that's the end of the fight! Riam Gracie showed his dominance in that final round. Well Gracie has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
