Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Paul Denton! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Donald Kerabatsos! The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Matheus Silva and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kerabatsos throws a nice inside leg kick. Paul Denton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Kerabatsos cracks Denton with a good jab. Kerabatsos blocks the body kick.
Denton thows a leg kick but Kerabatsos checks it and Kerabatsos makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Denton really felt that one! Kerabatsos takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Denton looks for a takedown but Kerabatsos sprawls well. Denton closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Denton is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Kerabatsos doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Denton. Denton trying to control the action but Kerabatsos is working from the bottom. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Denton is working for a kimura but Kerabatsos is defending it quite comfortably.
Denton is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Kerabatsos is looking for a sweep. Denton is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Denton is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Kerabatsos doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Denton.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Denton wants to pass to mount but Kerabatsos is defending the position. Kerabatsos is staying active underneath Denton, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Kerabatsos lands a high kick!
Denton throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. A head kick from Kerabatsos lands but Denton takes it in his stride. Denton gets the takedown into side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Denton working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Denton tries to move to mount but Kerabatsos blocks the move with his legs. Kerabatsos keeping his opponent close. Denton is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Kerabatsos is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Denton thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Denton tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Denton has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Kerabatsos is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Denton yanks on the arm and Kerabatsos is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Denton.
