Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Georges Lamont! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Joey Popham! The judges for this bout are William Peck, Ian Loll and Elvis Blanc.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lamont looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Lamont trying to mount his opponent but Popham defends it. Popham tries to roll over but Lamont keeps him under control. Lamont throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Popham scores with a few weak punches. Lamont knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Popham on the ground. Lamont is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Lamont takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Popham looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Popham avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Lamont. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Lamont seems to be looking for submissions.
Lamont is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Popham is just riding it out for now. Lamont eventually gives up the hold.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lamont takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Popham flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Popham is trying to get back to full guard. Popham looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Lamont is trying to work for a kimura but Popham is defending well.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Popham looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Popham looks gassed! Lamont looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Lamont seems to be working for a kimura but Popham defends the submission attempt. Lamont missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Popham moves into full guard.
Popham escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Lamont gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lamont is looking to advance position but Popham has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount! Popham throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Lamont has his hands clasped together but Popham breaks the hold and Lamont is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Popham!
