The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spants fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Maeda on the side of the head.

Spants tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Maeda was well out of range. Poor timing from Spants.
Spants lands with a nice body punch.
Spants loads up on a big right hand but Maeda slips the punch.
Maeda just misses with a punch to the body.
Maeda takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Spants misses with an uppercut. Maeda saw that one coming.
Spants jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Maeda goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Spants has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Maeda but great work by Spants.

Maeda changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Spants tries to avoid it but Maeda manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Spants to the ground. Spants escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Maeda shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Spants pinned against the cage. Spants gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
