PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Musky Chunder (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vitor Belfort (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chunder comes to the cage accompanied by Slam. Belfort has chosen Bate Pesadao as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vitor Belfort!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Edson Gomes and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chunder throws a push kick but Belfort slaps the foot to one side.
Chunder connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Chunder throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Belfort scores with a body shot.
Chunder moves away from the strike by Belfort.
Belfort lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Chunder at a distance.
Belfort avoids a kick to the body.
Belfort lands a nice looking body shot.
Chunder throws a sloppy head kick and Belfort moves out of range easily.

Chunder scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Chunder wants to lay and pray for a moment but Belfort keeps working.
Chunder prevents Belfort from standing back up.

Belfort is pressing down on Chunder's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Chunder postures up in Belfort's guard and throws a big left but Belfort blocks it.
Belfort is trying to control the position but Chunder postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Chunder stands up over Belfort, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Chunder stands and throws Belfort's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Belfort pushes Chunder away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Chunder gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Chunder is trying to get an arm triangle but Belfort is defending well.
Belfort wants to get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Belfort stops Chunder from passing to mount.
Chunder in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Belfort can't do much from the bottom here.

Belfort dodges the ground and pound from Chunder.
Belfort tries to buck Chunder off but Chunder is having none of it.
Chunder is looking to take a break and control but Belfort is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Belfort is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

Belfort wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Chunder is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Belfort has escaped the position, nice work there.

Chunder lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Chunder misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Belfort is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Chunder has just dragged him back down to the mat.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Chunder bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Chunder moves into the clinch.
Belfort wants to break free but Chunder has control.
Chunder looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Chunder lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.


It looks like Vitor Belfort has been cut.
Belfort blocks the elbow strike.
Chunder has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Belfort avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Belfort tries for a takedown. No joy.

Chunder has picked Belfort up - he's going for a ride! Chunder dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Chunder is nestled in close to Belfort, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Chunder tries to free his leg and advance position but Belfort is retaining full guard.
Chunder not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Chunder drops back, looking for a kneebar! Belfort looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Belfort looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Belfort!

Chunder is working hard here to advance position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Belfort wants to stand but Chunder has his arm trapped.
Chunder manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Belfort is looking to take a break and control but Chunder is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Chunder works his way to full guard. Good work.

Belfort would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Chunder is pulling down on Belfort's head. It's preventing any offense from Belfort, at least for the moment.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Belfort catches Chunder with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Belfort avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Belfort moves out of range as Chunder throws a body kick.
Chunder pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Belfort misses with a hook. Chunder ducked under it nicely.
Musky Chunder seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Belfort connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Chunder momentarily.

Chunder shoots in and bounces Belfort off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Chunder stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Belfort swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Belfort is pulling down on Chunder's head. It's preventing any offense from Chunder, at least for the moment.

Belfort is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Vitor Belfort's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Chunder on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Belfort throws an overhand right that lands on Chunder's shoulder, as Chunder tries to avoid the shot.
Chunder lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Belfort swings for the body but Chunder moves out of range.

Chunder wants to clinch up but Belfort keeps it at a distance.

Belfort smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Good leg kick by Chunder there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Belfort swings for the body but Chunder moves out of range.

Belfort with a poor takedown
and Chunder counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Chunder.
Belfort swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Chunder keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Belfort.
Chunder avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Chunder throws a low kick but it's checked well by Belfort.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Chunder lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Belfort has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Belfort and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Chunder takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Chunder throws a nice inside leg kick.
Chunder slips a straight right by Belfort.

Chunder shoots for a double leg takedown but Belfort sprawls well. He's pushed Chunder's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Vitor Belfort has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Musky Chunder. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Chunder throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Chunder misses with an attempted mid kick.
Belfort throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Chunder sees it coming and avoids it easily.

and Belfort cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Chunder throws a low kick, looking for Belfort's leg but Belfort calmly moves out of range.
Chunder ducks under a wild hook from Belfort.

Chunder shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Belfort's guard.
Chunder wants to control from the top but Belfort keeps moving.
Belfort preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Chunder accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Belfort is looking to stand up but Chunder isn't so interested in that idea.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Chunder slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Belfort pushes Chunder away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Chunder gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Chunder has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Chunder has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Belfort!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Chunder lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Chunder throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.

Chunder is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Belfort can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Chunder lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Belfort hang on?
Chunder wants to control the action but instead Belfort gets a body lock and reverses into Chunder's guard! Nice work!

Belfort has gone for a leg lock! Chunder slips out almost immediately though and dives into Belfort's guard.
Chunder makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Musky Chunder showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Chunder has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
