PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Juan Pablo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Tyson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Juan Pablo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mike Tyson!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pablo tries to score a power double leg takedown but Tyson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Pablo somewhat.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Pablo.
Tyson jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Pablo uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Tyson.
Nice defenses there by Pablo.
Tyson leaves Pablo with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Juan Pablo. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Tyson throws a nice looking combination but Pablo bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
That kick from Pablo tenderised Tyson's leg. Tyson is trying to keep his angry face on.

Pablo gets the takedown into side control.
Tyson is looking for a sweep.
Pablo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Tyson keeps working.
Tyson is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pablo wants to control but Tyson is keeping him busy.

Pablo throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Tyson is holding on to half guard well.
Tyson is trying to control but can't.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Mike Tyson has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Pablo shoots in but Tyson avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Nice takedown defense from Tyson. No joy for Pablo on that attempt.

Pablo tries to clinch there but Tyson circles away.
Pablo moves in looking to clinch but Tyson pushes him off.
Tyson jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Pablo fails with a takedown attempt.
Tyson just misses with a punch to the body.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Pablo fails in his attempt to clinch.
Mike Tyson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Tyson tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Pablo was well out of range. Poor timing from Tyson.
Pablo shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Tyson defends it nicely.
Pablo clobbers Tyson with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Juan Pablo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
No luck for Pablo with that takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Tyson dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Tyson ducks under a wild hook from Pablo.
Pablo misses with a shot to the body
and Pablo takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Pablo shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Tyson as he jumps to the side.
A big left from Tyson misses.
Tyson throws out a loose jab but Pablo uses good head movement to avoid it.

Pablo misses with a takedown attempt - Tyson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Horrible takedown by Pablo or perhaps it was just good defense by Tyson which made him look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Juan Pablo. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Pablo misses with a double jab
and Tyson counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Pablo closes the distance and clinches up with Tyson, looking for a takedown. Pablo pushes Tyson against the cage but Tyson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Tyson loads up on a big right hand but Pablo slips the punch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Tyson takes a swing at Pablo's ribcage but misses.
Tyson moves into range and connects with a jab.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Tyson circles away from the clinch attempt.
Nice sprawl there from Tyson as Pablo shoots in.
Tyson misses with a two punch combination.
Pablo shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Tyson as he jumps to the side.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Tyson enables Pablo to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Tyson manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Tyson seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Tyson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pablo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Pablo postures up in Tyson's guard and throws a big left but Tyson blocks it.
Tyson pulls Pablo in close to prevent any damage.
Tyson is looking to stand up but Pablo isn't so interested in that idea.

Tyson pushes Pablo off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Pablo is trying hard to land a takedown here. Tyson sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Pablo misses with a wild combination.
Nice takedown defense from Tyson. No joy for Pablo on that attempt.
Tyson throws a lazy right hand but Pablo sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Pablo shoots in for a takedown but Tyson shows good takedown defense.
Pablo throws a combination that misses
and Tyson cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.


It looks like Juan Pablo has been cut.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Tyson throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Tyson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Juan Pablo's cut.
That's time! Back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Tyson stuffs the takedown.
Tyson pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Tyson misses with a looping right.
Tyson paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Pablo misses with a jab to the body
and Tyson counters with a lovely straight right hand!
I'm just looking down at my notes here and I see that.... oh! Tyson has cracked Pablo with a big right, followed by a left! He's out on his feet! Tyson lands another huge swinging hook and Pablo tumbles to the canvas! The ref dives in to save Pablo, before Tyson can land any more shots!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:51 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Mike Tyson!
