Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Red Rum! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, George Romero! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Tiny Johnson and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Romero is trying hard to land a takedown here. Rum sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Romero shoots in for a takedown but Rum shows good takedown defense. George Romero seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. No luck for Romero with that takedown attempt. Red Rum has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of George Romero. Romero shoots in for a double leg but Rum sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. No luck for Romero with that takedown attempt. Rum gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Rum holds on and takes a little breather. Rum looking to hit a scissor sweep but Romero is one step ahead there. Rum working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Romero.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rum wants to stand and escape but Romero is having none of it. Rum kicks Romero off and gets to his feet. No luck for Romero with that takedown attempt. Rum connects with a right hand. Romero shakes it off.
It looks like George Romero has been cut. Horrible takedown by Romero or perhaps it was just good defense by Rum which made him look bad. Romero looks gassed! Nice takedown defense from Rum. No joy for Romero on that attempt. Rum misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Rum scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. Rum fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Romero.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A nice leg kick lands there from Rum. This has been an exciting period of action! Rum punishes Romero's body with a nice straight punch. Rum connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. Rum leaves Romero with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Rum throws a nice looking combination but Romero bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Whack! Rum lands a heavy head kick that drops Romero. The ref tackles Rum to stop the fight - a great save by the referee because Romero was done.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Head Kick). Red Rum!
