9 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rick Rivers! The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Steve Erwin and Donatello Bradman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rivers takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Rivers swats away the attempt to clinch by Valentine. Valentine fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Rivers throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Valentine. Valentine avoids the body shot from Rivers.
Valentine throws a leg kick that misses. Jab, jab by Rivers - just one landing. Valentine lands a leg kick that knocks Rivers off balance momentarily. Rivers misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Valentine moves away from the strike by Rivers. Rivers moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Rivers throws a right hand that misses
and Valentine counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Rivers lands on the inside with an uppercut. Valentine lands a body punch in the clinch. Valentine swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Rivers lands a right hand. Valentine gets control of Rivers's arms and successfully pulls guard. Valentine will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Valentine throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Rivers wants to get up but he can't break Valentine's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Rick Rivers. Valentine cracks the inside of Rivers's front leg. Valentine shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Rivers pinned against the cage. Rivers gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Rivers fails to land with a series of punches.

Valentine throws a push kick but Rivers slaps the foot to one side. Rivers looks for the body kick but Valentine saw that one coming. Rivers throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Rick Rivers is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Valentine closes the distance and clinches. A hook to the body from Rivers.
Valentine drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Rivers gets the underhooks and prevents it.
A nice right hand lands inside from Rivers. Rivers breaks from the clinch.
Valentine throws a low kick but it's checked well by Rivers. Valentine lands with a kick to the temple. Rivers shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" Valentine pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Rivers is looking to slow Valentine down with leg kicks. Valentine moves out of range as Rivers strikes. Rivers blocks a head kick by Valentine.
Valentine connects with a body shot that sends Rivers's belly button to the back. Rivers does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. Some bone on bone action there as Valentine checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. Valentine connects with a right hand. Rivers shakes it off. Valentine avoids the head kick by Rivers.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rivers changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. A combination from Rivers does no damage. Valentine is trying hard to land a takedown here. Rivers sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alexander Valentine. That's going to take a lot out of him. Rivers scores with a hook. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! A swing and a miss from Rivers. Rivers uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Rivers moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Good exchange - Valentine coming out on top. Valentine uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Rivers.

Valentine looks to score with a jab to the body but Rivers is just out of range. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Rivers misses with an uppercut
and Valentine moves into the clinch. Rivers goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Rivers looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Rivers lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Valentine. Valentine blocks a body shot from Rivers. Valentine tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rick Rivers dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Valentine walks into a stiff left hand from Rivers. Rivers fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Valentine checks it well. Valentine moves into the clinch. Rivers pushes Valentine back against the cage and unloads with a body punch. Rivers throws a head punch that misses. A hook to the body from Valentine.

A frustrated look appears on Valentine's face as he tries to break the clinch. Valentine is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath. Valentine has a couple of punches blocked by Rivers.

That's one minute gone in the round. Rivers tries to work over Valentine's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Both guys are working to get underhooks. Rivers pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Rivers takes a swing at Valentine's ribcage but misses. Rivers throws the kick towards the body but Valentine avoids it. Rivers chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Rivers connects with a right hand. Valentine shakes it off. Valentine takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Valentine has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Rivers. Rivers throws a push kick but Valentine slaps the foot to one side. Rivers jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Rivers dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Valentine. That did some damage! Rivers buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Rivers uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Rivers throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Rivers scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. A good leg kick by Rivers. Rivers connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. Rivers connects with a looping right hand.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rivers bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Valentine's head backwards.
Valentine is rocked! Rivers throws an overhand right that drops Valentine like a sack of potatoes! Rivers dives in to finish the fight with more strikes and this one is all over!
