Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
17 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dirk Harvath!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
19 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Machidan Lyoton!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Robert Douchet and Ian Loll.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A low kick from Harvath misses
and Lyoton counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Lyoton is looking to stall here but Harvath recovers full guard.
Lyoton wants to control from the top but Harvath keeps moving.
Harvath pulls Lyoton in close to his closed guard and prevents Lyoton from doing any damage or advancing position.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Machidan Lyoton hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Lyoton throws a chopping leg kick but Harvath manages to avoid taking any serious damage.

Harvath fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Harvath fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Lyoton has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

and Lyoton counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Lyoton drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Lyoton passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Lyoton creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Harvath sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Harvath is not content to let Lyoton control the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Lyoton fails to land a wild elbow strike.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Machidan Lyoton dominated that round.

and Lyoton decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Harvath's guard.
Lyoton is looking to work some ground and pound but Harvath has wrist control.
Lyoton throwing strikes but missing.
Lyoton throws and elbow that misses. Harvath uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Lyoton's guard. Nice move by Harvath!
Lyoton controls Harvath momentarily but Harvath frees himself.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Lyoton is on top in guard.

Lyoton got a little sloppy there for a moment and Harvath has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Lyoton has managed to get both his arms back between Harvath's legs - danger averted.
Harvath is looking for a triangle but Lyoton pushes his legs off easily.
Lyoton stands up over Harvath, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Lyoton must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Harvath has hold of Lyoton's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Lyoton tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Harvath cranks the arm and Lyoton screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Lyoton, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
