Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Virgil Mays (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ichi Omori (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mays's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Wretches & Kings. Virgil Mays could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Ichi Omori's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Virgil Mays!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ichi Omori!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mays uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Omori.
Mays misses with a body shot.
Omori fails with the takedown
and Mays counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Omori gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.


It looks like Ichi Omori has been cut.
Omori throws a jab but it's blocked by Mays.
Omori misses with an uppercut.
Omori misses with a combination
and Mays connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Omori fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Mays manages to avoid it.

Mays closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Mays throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Omori works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Mays is taking a breather. Omori says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Omori moves into full guard.

Omori escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mays gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Mays controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Omori is on top in guard.
Omori trying to control but Mays is working from the bottom.
Mays wants to sweep here but Omori controlling him for the moment.

Omori wants to pass the guard but Mays is keeping the position.

Omori sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Mays's guard.

Omori is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Mays sees it coming and defends easily.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Omori looking to finish Mays with some ground and pound. This is bad for Mays!
Omori lands a heavy elbow.
Mays is looking to improve his position but Omori isn't that keen on the idea.
Omori lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Omori moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Mays has worked his arm free - good work by Mays!
Mays is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Virgil Mays will probably get the nod.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Mays swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Omori looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Mays has picked Omori up and slammed him! Omori can't keep hold of the triangle and Mays manages to pass to side control!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mays misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Mays is looking to take a break and control but Omori is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Sloppy strikes there by Mays.
The referee asks Mays politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Mays prefers to stall for the moment though.
Mays scores with a couple of short elbows.
Omori can't do much from the bottom here.

Mays postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Omori tries to buck Mays off but Mays is having none of it.
Omori is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Mays is looking to take a break and control but Omori is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

That's time! Mays's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

and Mays counters with a series of strikes. Omori will be more careful next time no doubt.

Mays digs a good body shot into Omori's ribs.
Omori ducks under a wild hook from Mays.
Mays walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Omori throws a hook to the side of Mays's head but Mays sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Omori is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Mays pulls his head out easily.
Mays throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Omori gets back to full guard.
Omori is trying to keep Mays in close.
Mays looking to sit in guard and control but Omori gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Mays looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Omori wants to control from the top but Mays keeps moving.
Mays seems keen to control Omori's posture.

Virgil Mays showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mays, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
