Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Eiji Date (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lionel Shimba (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shimba has chosen All I Want as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Shirou Masuda.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Date shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Shimba as he jumps to the side.
Date looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Shimba tries to clinch there but Date circles away.
Shimba fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Shimba keeps the fight on the outside.
Shimba shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Date counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Date.
Shimba wants to stand up but Date is controlling him.
Shimba looking for a guillotine here but Date defends easily.
Shimba is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Shimba bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Date's guard.

Shimba is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Shimba is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shimba wants to stand but Date is controlling his posture from full guard.

Shimba wants to control from the top but Date keeps moving.
Shimba thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Shimba wants to get up but he can't break Date's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Shimba is pushing down on Date's leg trying to pass to half guard. Date is fighting to maintain full guard but Shimba has managed to sneak the leg through.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Shimba is thwarting Date's attempts to control the position.
Shimba is keen to just control but Date is a slippery customer.
Shimba wants to pass the guard but Date is defending well.
Shimba tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Date.
Shimba throwing shots but Date is blocking nicely.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Shimba is looking for a kimura but Date is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Shimba to get the leverage.

That was a close round but I would say that Eiji Date will probably get the nod.

Shimba drops back, looking for a kneebar! Date looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Date looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Date!

Shimba is letting Date control him for a moment.
Shimba is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Date is controlling him well.

Date wants to lay and pray for a moment but Shimba keeps working.

Date tries to move to mount but Shimba blocks the move with his legs.

Date avoids the attempt from Shimba to control.

Date can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Shimba is looking to escape.
Shimba bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Shimba sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Date's guard.
Shimba is trying to control. Date wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Shimba tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Shimba looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Date with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Shimba prevents Date from standing back up.
Eiji Date overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Date avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Shimba.
Date is looking for a sweep. Shimba is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Shimba trying to mount his opponent but Date defends it.
Shimba is working for a submission of some sort.
Shimba is working for a kimura but Date is defending it quite comfortably.

Eiji Date dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!
Date throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
A low kick from Shimba misses
and Date decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Shimba's guard.
Shimba wants to stand but Date is controlling the position.

Date gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Shimba lands with a nice combination. Date backs away looking to recover.
Date shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Shimba is trying to defend but Date finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Date tries to pass the half guard into mount. Shimba knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Date slips a nice elbow through Shimba's hands, connecting with Shimba's forehead.

Shimba is trying to maintain the position but Date is very close to passing his half guard.
Date content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Date has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Date gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Date here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Date stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shimba swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Date's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Shimba controls Date momentarily but Date frees himself.
Lionel Shimba has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Date scores a takedown into full mount!
Date connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Date trying to control but Shimba is having none of it.
Shimba is wriggling around trying to escape.
Eiji Date is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well Date has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
