Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mauricio Rua!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lyoto Machida!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Leandro Rodrigues and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rua shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Machida as he jumps to the side.
Rua shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Machida regains full guard. Nicely done.
Machida pulls Rua in close to prevent any damage.
Machida is looking to stand up but Rua isn't so interested in that idea.
Rua drops back looking for a leg! Machida is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Machida manages to kick Rua off! Rua jumps back into Machida's guard.
Machida manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Mauricio Rua seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Machida feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Machida is looking to work some ground and pound but Rua has wrist control.

Machida stands up over Rua, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
