The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mara digs a good hook to Savage's body.
Mara throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Savage fails with the takedown
and Mara cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Mara looks to score with a jab to the body but Savage is just out of range.
Mara thows a body shot but no joy.
Mara takes a swing at Savage's ribcage but misses.
Mara lands with a straight right. Savage didn't see that one coming.

and Savage counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Mara!
Savage tries to control but Mara wriggling away.

Mara wants to hold on but Savage pushes him away.
Mara slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Savage is looking to take a break and control but Mara is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Savage thows a huge punch but Mara dodges it nicely.
Savage thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Savage misses with a head shot. Mara uses the momentum to regain guard.
Savage stays in close to Mara's body and controls the position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Savage trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Mara wants to stand up but Savage is controlling him.
Savage distracts Mara with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Savage throws and elbow that misses. Mara uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Savage's guard. Nice move by Mara!

Savage has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Savage looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Mara puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

The fighters are battling for position here. Savage manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Savage has control of Mara's left arm, preventing Mara from doing any damage.

That was a close round but I would say that Joel Savage will probably get the nod.

Mara dips to his left and cracks Savage with an uppercut!
Mara swings away with a body shot that misses
and Savage counters with a single leg into guard. Mara didn't expect that.
Mara wants to stand up but Savage is controlling him.
Mara scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Savage tries for a takedown but Mara circles away easily
and Mara counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Savage thinking.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joel Savage. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Savage closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Mara quickly recovers to half guard.
Mara tries to kick Savage off but Savage keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Savage throws a strike but Mara avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Savage won't allow Mara to pass to mount.
Savage trying to hold on to Mara's head to control him but Mara postures up.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Mara in particular looking to stall.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Joel Savage.
Savage slips a jab from Mara.
Mara with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Mara tries to clinch but Savage moves out of range.
Savage shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Mara counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Mara gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Mara pulls Savage in to control the position.
Mara keeping moving, preventing Savage from controlling successfully.
Savage stops Mara from standing up.
Savage loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Mara manages to escape and get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Matthew Mara showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Savage's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!
Mara thuds his right hand into Savage's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Savage shoots and misses
and Mara counters with a two punch combo.
Savage is rocked!
Mara connects with a right hand. Savage shakes it off.
Oh Savage is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Mara lands with a shot to the body.
Savage looks up at the clock. Bad move! Mara lands a right hand from hell, dropping Savage. Mara pounces and finishes the fight with a flurry of punches and elbows.
