Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, John Slade! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
13 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Oscar Sanchez! The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Tarja Halkonen and Arvi Lind.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sanchez closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Slade quickly recovers to half guard. Slade tries to get to full guard but Sanchez has control of the leg. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Sanchez sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Slade defending well though. Sanchez not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Sanchez thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Slade to regain full guard. Slade keeping moving, preventing Sanchez from controlling successfully. Sanchez working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Slade has his hands on Sanchez's head, controlling the position. Sanchez trying to control but Slade is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sanchez stays in close to Slade's body and controls the position. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Slade controlling the position.

Sanchez fails in his attempt to clinch. Sanchez shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Slade sprawls well. Slade wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Sanchez gets slowly back to his feet. Slade feints a jab promting Sanchez to slip. Slade then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Sanchez slips again and ducks right into an uppercut. Sanchez bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Slade struggling a bit here. Slade manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Slade wants to get back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Slade stands up out of the half guard. Slade thuds a left hand into Sanchez's body. Slade fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Donk. Slade catches Sanchez right on the button with a cross. Slade throws out a powerful jab.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sanchez shoots in and drives through. Slade sprawls well. Sanchez walks into a left hand. Sanchez looks to clinch and Slade counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Slade throws a jab when Sanchez was well out of range. Slade throws a right hand that misses
and Sanchez counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Slade is doing well to control the position and prevent Sanchez from advancing to side control. Slade manages to get to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
John Slade has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Sanchez shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Sanchez trying to control the position from guard on top but Slade is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Sanchez postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Slade is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Sanchez, into his guard. Slade wants to stand but Sanchez is controlling his posture from full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Slade fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Sanchez looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Slade works the jab nicely. Slade misses with a hook
and Sanchez counters with a right hand to the body. Sanchez pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Slade connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Slade misses with a two punch combination.
Sanchez shoots for a double leg takedown but Slade sprawls well. He's pushed Sanchez's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Slade lands with a shot to the body.

Slade slaps away a takedown attempt from Sanchez, before circling back to the center of the mat. Nice uppercut there from Slade. Sanchez looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Slade is fending him off so far but Sanchez persists. Nope, Slade circles away and we're back to standing. John Slade has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Oscar Sanchez. Sanchez takes a jab right on the kisser.

and Sanchez decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Slade's guard. Sanchez wants to control from the top but Slade keeps moving. Slade pulls Sanchez in close to prevent any damage. Oscar Sanchez has got the better of the ground game so far.

We're going to have a standup here because John Slade wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Slade lands a really nice looking cross but Sanchez seems unphased.

and Sanchez moves into the clinch. A shot in the inside from Slade. Both guys are working to get underhooks. Slade throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Sanchezs head. Sanchez drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Slade gets the underhooks and prevents it.
