7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Manuel Paquiao! The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Daniel Bishop and Sam Margolis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McDonald throws a sloppy body shot
letting Paquiao counter with a right hand. Paquiao sizes up McDonald with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. Nice uppercut there from Paquiao. McDonald throws a lazy uppercut
and Paquiao counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. McDonald throws a lazy uppercut
and Paquiao counters with a left and a right that stings McDonald. Paquiao dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Paquiao misses with a right hand and McDonald connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. McDonald takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Paquiao throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Paquiao takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. McDonald shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Paquiao pinned against the cage. Paquiao gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. McDonald throws an off balance right hand
and Paquiao counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Paquiao misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from McDonald.
That's one minute gone in the round. Paquiao misses with an uppercut
and McDonald decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Paquiao's guard. McDonald pushing down on Paquiao's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Paquiao can do anything to dispel that myth. McDonald working the head and body with strikes. McDonald trying to advance position but Paquiao counters by regaining guard. McDonald is pushing down on Paquiao's leg trying to pass to half guard. Paquiao is fighting to maintain full guard but McDonald has managed to sneak the leg through. McDonald is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Paquiao is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:53 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Tommy McDonald! Tommy McDonald retains his lightweight title!
