PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nixon Biggins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Vaughn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vaughn is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Walking Tall. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Nixon Biggins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Chris Vaughn!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Dillan Fox and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vaughn thows a body shot but no joy.
Vaughn misses with a body shot
and Biggins counters with a straight right hand.
Vaughn throws a right and a left that Biggins avoids nicely.
Biggins tries to clinch up but Vaughn circles away and keeps his distance.
Vaughn misses with a double jab

and Biggins counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Biggins's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Vaughn throws a predictable looking body shot

and Biggins counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Biggins.
Vaughn blocks the elbow strike.
Biggins goes for a takedown in the clinch but Vaughn prevents it.
Vaughn tries for a takedown. No joy.

Vaughn pulls guard.
Biggins postures up in Vaughn's guard and throws a big left but Vaughn blocks it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Biggins trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Biggins works over Vaughn with some ground and pound from guard.
Vaughn seems keen to control Biggins's posture.
Biggins throwing strikes from guard but Vaughn blocks nicely.

Biggins throws a strike but Vaughn rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Biggins throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Vaughn wants to control from the top but Biggins keeps moving.

Biggins looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Biggins tries to control but Vaughn manages to take his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Vaughn is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
What can Biggins do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Vaughn is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Biggins defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Biggins trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.

Biggins just trying to survive but Vaughn is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Vaughn controls the action.
Biggins is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Vaughn is trying to stick to Biggins's back but Biggins is turning into Vaughn. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Vaughn's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Biggins.

Vaughn escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Biggins gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Biggins decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Biggins chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Vaughn can pounce on him.

Vaughn throws a left and a right that both miss

and Biggins counters with a takedown into side control.

Biggins is trying to get an arm triangle but Vaughn is defending well.
Vaughn is not content to let Biggins control the position.
Biggins scoring with punches and elbows.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Biggins is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Vaughn has escaped the position, nice work there.
Biggins throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Vaughn works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nixon Biggins dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Vaughn pulls out of a head kick attempt.

enabling Biggins to counter with a crisp jab.

Biggins closes the distance and clinches.
Biggins leaning his opponent against the cage.
Biggins is pressed up against the cage. Vaughn has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Biggins down to the mat. Biggins avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Biggins fails with a takedown attempt.
Vaughn misses with a double jab
and Biggins counters with a straight right hand.

and Biggins counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Biggins tries to clinch up but Vaughn circles away and keeps his distance.

Vaughn scores with a one two! Biggins had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.


It looks like Nixon Biggins has been cut.
Vaughn throws a left and a right that both miss

and Biggins counters with a nice double leg into side control. Vaughn won't be happy with that.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Biggins trying to control the action but Vaughn is working from the bottom.
Biggins working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.

Biggins is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Vaughn has escaped the position, nice work there.
The strikes coming from Biggins are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

and Biggins counters with a single leg into guard. Vaughn didn't expect that.

Vaughn working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Biggins doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Biggins manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Vaughn can't keep his opponent in guard - Biggins advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Vaughn is trying to stand up here but Biggins is controlling him well.

Vaughn is staying active underneath Biggins, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Chris Vaughn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Vaughn counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

A close second round but Chris Vaughn will probably get the nod - 10:9.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Biggins wants to get back to his feet but Vaughn is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Biggins bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Vaughn lands a jab to Biggins's midsection.
Vaughn is looking to land body kicks.
Vaughn throws a lazy uppercut
and Biggins counters with a nice uppercut.
Vaughn feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Bigginss jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!


Nixon Biggins's cut is getting worse.
Vaughn misses with a lunging right hand

and Biggins counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Biggins advances position into side control!
Biggins throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Vaughn tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Biggins wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Vaughn gets back to half guard.
Biggins wants to pass to mount but Vaughn is defending the position.

Biggins thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Vaughn to regain full guard.
Vaughn looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Biggins gets to his feet. Vaughn looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

and Biggins counters by clinching up.
Biggins wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Vaughn misses with a body punch

and Biggins counters with a shoot takedown. Vaughn fights it but they end up in guard.
Biggins missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Biggins throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Vaughn works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Biggins won't allow Vaughn to sweep him here.
Vaughn takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Vaughn bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Biggins's guard.
Vaughn must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Biggins trying to keep a closed guard but Vaughn is proving a slippery customer.

Biggins has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Biggins is trying to hold Vaughn in close to prevent damage but Vaughn has managed to pass into half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Biggins slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
