PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sam Alito (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brown is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Monster. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sam Alito!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, David Brown!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Chad Campbell and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brown moves away from the strike by Alito.
Alito fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Brown has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Brown misses with a few strikes there.
Alito fails in his attempt to clinch.
Alito dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Brown throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Alito counters with an inside leg kick.
Alito throws a poor cross that misses
and Brown counters with a leg kick.
An inside leg kick lands from Alito.
Alito throws a series of punches but Brown moves out of range.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Alito misses the body punch

and Brown counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Brown.
Alito is trying to keep Brown in close.
Alito wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Alito wants to sweep but no luck.
Alito keeping moving, preventing Brown from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brown postures up.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Sam Alito.
Alito misses with a left hand
and Brown cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Alito works Brown's body with a nice hook.
Alito thows a body shot but no joy.
Alito misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

and Brown counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Alito thinking.

and Brown counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Alito looks to score with a jab to the body but Brown is just out of range.
Sam Alito seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Alito doesn't manage to clinch there - Brown circles away.
Brown misses with a left hand
and Alito connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Brown will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Alito tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Brown decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Alito's guard.
Alito tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Alito working a defensive guard but Brown passes into half guard.
Brown trying to mount his opponent but Alito defends it.
Alito is looking to control Brown's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Alito avoid being mounted?

Alito is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Alito tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Brown has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Alito wants to hold on but Brown pushes him away.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Brown looking to control and managing it successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Brown dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Alito moves in looking to clinch but Brown pushes him off.
Brown throws a poor cross that misses
and Alito counters with a nice uppercut.
Alito tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Brown paws at him with a jab and circles away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Alito on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Alito swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Alito misses with an uppercut
and Brown counters with a nice uppercut.
Brown swats away the attempt to clinch by Alito.
Brown throws a lazy uppercut
and Alito makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Alito throws a right hand that misses
and Brown counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Alito stuns Brown with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Brown avoids the head kick by Alito.
Brown misses with an uppercut
and Alito counters with a left to the body.

Alito looks to land a right hand but Brown moved out of range.
Alito rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
letting Brown counter with a right hand.
Brown uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Alito.
A head kick by Alito misses
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Brown throws a body punch but Alito moves out of range.
Alito lands with a right hand.
A low kick from Brown misses
and Alito counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.


It looks like David Brown has been cut.

Alito misses the shot to the body.
Brown misses with a lunging right hand
and Alito counters with a low kick, right behind Brown 's knee.
Alito wants to clinch up but Brown keeps it at a distance.
Alito throws a head kick that misses
and Brown counters with an outside leg kick.
Alito tries to clinch but Brown moves away
and Brown counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Nice defenses there by Alito.
Alito throws a right hand that misses
and Brown counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Nice jab there from Alito.
Alito throws a head kick that misses
and Brown counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Alito is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Alito misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Brown.
Alito throws a leg kick
and Brown counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Brown closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Brown steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Alito.
Good work by Alito as he checks the leg kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but David Brown will probably get the nod - 10:9.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Brown takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Brown misses with a lunging right hand
and Alito counters with a good, hard body kick but Brown shrugs it off.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Alito lands with a thumping leg kick.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Alito.
Alito takes a swing at Brown's ribcage but misses.
Alito throws a nice inside leg kick.
Alito scores with a punch to the head.
Alito throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
A low kick from Alito is predictable there
and Brown counters with a nice kick to the body.
Sam Alito has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Sam Alito is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Alito loads up on a big right hand but Brown slips the punch.
Alito moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Brown shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Good leg kick by Alito there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

enabling Brown to counter with a crisp jab.
Sam Alito is winning the standup battle so far.
Alito misses with a kick to the body
and Alito takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Alito connects with a crisp jab.
Alito throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Alito moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Alito lands a jab to Brown's midsection.
Alito scores with a sloppy right hand. Brown should have avoided that one.
Brown's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Alito throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Brown.

That kick from Alito tenderised Brown's leg. Brown is trying to keep his angry face on.
Alito throws the left hand but Brown avoids the punch easily.
Alito throws a left and a right that both miss
and Brown counters with a nice uppercut.
Alito throws a leg kick
and Brown counters with a stiff right hand.
Brown throws a lazy uppercut
and Alito counters with an outside leg kick.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
