PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Dow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Hooker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hooker has chosen Ricky Martin - Shake Your Bon Bon as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. John Dow has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Dow!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jack Hooker!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Chad Campbell and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dow closes this distance looking for a takedown but Hooker circles away.
Some wild striking there from Hooker.
Dow really is a fat lump.
Hooker darts in trying to clinch

and Dow counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Dow is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Hooker reverses the position - he's now on top in Dow's guard.
Hooker trying to stand up but can't free himself from Dow's guard.
Dow looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Dow has his foot on Hooker's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hooker works his way back into a safe position though.

Dow is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Dow doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Hooker would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Dow has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hooker can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Jack Hooker has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

and Dow counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Dow.

Hooker is fighting off a takedown attempt but Dow is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Hooker to the mat. Hooker regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Dow postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Dow wants to control from the top but Hooker keeps moving.

Hooker might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Dow kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Hooker closes the distance and pushes Dow back into the cage.

Dow might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Dow is looking to work some ground and pound but Hooker has wrist control.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Jack Hooker.
Hooker lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.


It looks like John Dow has been cut.
Hooker is looking to clinch but Dow is avoiding it.
Hooker pivots, looking for a leg kick but Dow is out of range and Hooker settles back down.

Hooker pushes Dow up against the cage in a clinch.
Dow changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Hooker fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Dow shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Hooker defends it nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Dow. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hooker is looking to clinch but Dow is avoiding it.
Hooker moves to clinch but Dow breaks away

and Dow counters with a shoot takedown. Hooker fights it but they end up in guard.
John Dow overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Hooker pulls Dow in close to his closed guard and prevents Dow from doing any damage or advancing position.
Hooker's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Dow has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Dow throws a strike but Hooker rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Hooker stands up from guard. Let's bang!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Dow avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Hooker tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Dow manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Dow circles away from the clinch attempt.
Hooker throws a series of strikes that have Dow backpedaling.

Hooker drops Dow with a beautiful combination! Dow stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Hooker is looking for the KO!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hooker scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.


John Dow's cut is getting worse.
Jack Hooker seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Hooker connects with a left and a right that sees a clearly hurt Dow covering up! Hooker comes in with a big uppercut and Dow goes doooown! He's slumped up against the cage, eyes staring blankly into space.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Jack Hooker!
