Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vlad Buterat! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kosty Badzenko! The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Valeri Chadov and Aleksei Zolotukhin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Buterat fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Badzenko sprawls well initially but Buterat persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Buterat works his foot free and advances to mount. Buterat controlling his opponent. Badzenko tries to hold on but Buterat postures up. Buterat takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Badzenko is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Buterat unloads with some shots from mount but Badzenko bucks and avoids them well.
Buterat controlling the pace for now. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Badzenko really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Buterat avoids the attempt from Badzenko to control. Badzenko is wriggling around trying to escape.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Buterat thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage. Buterat throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Badzenko because Buterat loaded up on that one. Buterat misses with a head shot. Buterat content just to control the position here. Buterat can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Badzenko is looking to escape. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Buterat is really struggling to control Badzenko but he's trying to hold on to the position. Buterat sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it! Buterat could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Badzenko is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Buterat working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Badzenko tries to improve his position but Buterat has taken his back! Buterat has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Badzenko tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Buterat pushes Badzenko away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Vlad Buterat!
