Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
18 - 7 - 2, fighting out of Sydney, Gerlach Rutger! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Hempii Sapponen! The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Skip Squint and Hugh Johnson.

Rutger shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Rutger showed some decent athleticism there.
Sapponen actively working from the bottom here. Sapponen is looking to control Rutger's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Sapponen avoid being mounted? Sapponen on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Sapponen wants to control but Rutger is keeping busy.
Rutger lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Sapponen is not content to let Rutger control the position. Sapponen wants to control but Rutger is keeping busy.
Rutger has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Rutger in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Sapponen preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Sapponen is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Rutger won't allow Sapponen to sweep him here. Rutger not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Rutger changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sapponen looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Sapponen parries the strikes from Rutger easily there. Rutger is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Sapponen to escape.
Rutger wants to control but Sapponen is keeping him busy.

Sapponen is trying to control Rutger's posture but Rutger avoids it. Rutger is working Sapponen over with some ground and pound from side control. Sapponen tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Rutger wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Rutger sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Sapponen is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Rutger wants to free his trapped foot but Sapponen is holding on for dear life with his legs. Rutger is working hard here to advance position. Sapponen wants to control but Rutger is keeping busy.

Rutger takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Sapponen tries to roll over but Rutger keeps him under control. Rutger thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Rutger working over Sapponen with some ground and pound. Sapponen looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Rutger is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Rutger is looking to advance position but Sapponen won't allow it. Sapponen trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Sapponen is wriggling around trying to escape.
Rutger lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Gerlach Rutger dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

It looks like Gerlach Rutger has been cut. Sapponen throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Rutger sees it coming and avoids it easily. Rutger blocks a jab. A slow jab from Sapponen misses its intended target. Sapponen thows a left - swing and a miss!
Rutger scores a takedown into full mount! Sapponen tries to lock up and control but Rutger gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Sapponen regains half guard. Sapponen wants to control but Rutger is keeping busy.
Rutger is keen to just control but Sapponen is a slippery customer.

Rutger throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Sapponen keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Sapponen manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Rutger closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Rutger tries to move into full mount but can't pass Sapponen's legs. Rutger just content to control the position. Sapponen tries to bench press Rutger off him but Rutger keeps the position. Rutger connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Sapponen some visible discomfort.
Sapponen regains half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Rutger lands a nice short elbow. Rutger prevents Sapponen from improving his position. Rutger looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Sapponen taking some punishment here, with Rutger in his half guard. Rutger drops an elbow to the side of Sapponen's head. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Sapponen pushes Rutger off looking to stand but Rutger dives back in and keeps control.
Sapponen is breathing heavily. Sapponen has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rutger is working away from the top position though. Rutger thows a huge punch but Sapponen dodges it nicely.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Rutger wants to free his trapped foot but Sapponen is holding on for dear life with his legs. Rutger prevents Sapponen from improving his position. Rutger is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Sapponen is not content to let Rutger control the position. Sapponen blocking the ground and pound attempt from Rutger.

Rutger is working away from the top position though. Rutger landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Sapponen is trying to control but can't.
Rutger passes to full mount! Rutger fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
The referee warns Sapponen that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Sapponen is still in real trouble! Can Rutger finish him? Rutger prevents Sapponen from getting the reversal. Rutger is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Sapponen can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Gerlach Rutger dominated that second round. The cut man is working on Gerlach Rutger's cut. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!
Sapponen takes a swing at Rutger's ribcage but misses.
Rutger shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Sapponen is trying to defend but Rutger finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Sapponen has hold of Rutger's hands but Rutger slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Sapponen tries to roll over but Rutger keeps him under control. Sapponen seems to have recovered his senses. Sapponen trying to hold on to Rutger's head to control him but Rutger postures up.
Sapponen might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Rutger kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Sapponen kicks Rutger off and gets back to his feet. Sapponen ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Rutger moves away. Rutger is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Sapponen can do to turn this around?

Sapponen throws a shot from downtown. Rutger moves away and avoids it. Sapponen misses with a wild body shot. Sapponen throws an overhand right that lands on Rutger's shoulder, as Rutger tries to avoid the shot. Sapponen looks to throw the jab but Rutger is out of range.
Rutger scores with a takedown into Sapponen's guard. Rutger is looking to work some ground and pound but Sapponen has wrist control. Sapponen is trying to control the position but Rutger postures up. Rutger trying to control the position from guard on top but Sapponen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Sapponen looking to control.

Sapponen takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Sapponen takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Rutger scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Sapponen is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Rutger can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Gerlach Rutger!
