Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Max Zorin! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Troy Washington! The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Thiago Cunha and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Zorin tries to clinch but Washington is having none of it. The fighters circle momentarily. Washington darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Zorin is looking to clinch but Washington is avoiding it.
Zorin decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Zorin is looking for a kimura here.
Washington wants to improve his position but Zorin is controlling well.
Zorin thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Washington's head. Zorin trying to mount his opponent but Washington defends it. Washington gets full guard. Washington gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Zorin is looking for a triangle but Washington pushes his legs off easily.
Zorin is breathing heavily. Washington wants to stand but Zorin has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Washington pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Zorin is keeping the position for now. Zorin is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Washington drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Washington jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Zorin manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Zorin with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Zorin goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Washington turns into him and now he's in Zorin's guard.
Washington stands up from guard. Let's bang! Zorin rushes Washington and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Zorin lands a nice elbow.

An inside leg kick lands from Zorin. Washington looks to score with a jab to the body but Zorin is just out of range. Zorin bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Zorin scoring with punches and elbows.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Washington struggling a bit here. Zorin working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Washington gets back to half guard. Washington makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work! A combination from Washington does no damage. Zorin tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Washington moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Washington throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Zorin stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Washington scores with a nice right hand.
Washington lunges at Zorin with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Zorin's hand. Zorin tries to close the distance and clinch up but Washington swats him away and circles back towards the center. Zorin tries to clinch but Washington is having none of it. Washington circles away from the clinch attempt.

Washington throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage! Washington lands a slapping body shot.
Zorin takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Zorin is looking to clinch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Zorin fails in his attempt to clinch. Zorin moves in looking to clinch but Washington pushes him off. Zorin will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. The fighters circling - Washington throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Washington!
Washington checks a leg kick. Zorin tries to close the distance and clinch but Washington swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Washington throws a leg kick but Zorin sees it coming and checks it nicely. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! No joy there for Washington, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Zorin ducks under a wild hook from Washington. Zorin rushes Washington and presses him up against the cage. Zorin using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Washington has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
