PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Spazzy Magee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stuno Mashinata (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stuno Mashinata will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Spazzy Magee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Stuno Mashinata!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Fedor Mirinova and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mashinata closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Magee to the mat! Magee manages to get full guard.
Mashinata trying to control the position from guard on top but Magee is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Magee seems keen to control Mashinata's posture.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Spazzy Magee wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Mashinata stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mashinata wants it to stay on the feet.

Mashinata darts in and clinches Magee up against the cage.

Magee tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Mashinata just stands there and leans against the cage.
A right hook to the body lands for Mashinata.

Mashinata tightens his grip and picks Magee up, before dumping him to the ground. Magee manages to land in guard.

Mashinata wants to improve his position but Magee is controlling well.
Mashinata misses with some strikes from the bottom.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Magee is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Mashinata tries to clinch up

and Magee counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Magee has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Mashinata is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Magee defends well.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Mashinata moves in looking to clinch but Magee pushes him off.

Magee bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Magee wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mashinata keeps working.
You can see the frustration on Mashinata's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Magee lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Magee stalling away here and it's allowed Mashinata to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Magee is looking to advance position but Mashinata has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Mashinata throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Magee is desperately trying to improve his position but Mashinata has a good base and remains in mount.
Magee is bucking up trying to escape but Mashinata cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Mashinata prevents Magee from getting the reversal.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Magee is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Mashinata postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Magee is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Mashinata, into his guard.

Mashinata is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Mashinata wants to sweep here but Magee controlling him for the moment.

Magee is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Magee has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

I think Magee has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
