PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Nick Pederson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mortimer Plumbtree (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Pederson might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Avenged Sevenfold - Natural Born Killer. Plumbtree has chosen White and Nerdy as his entrance music. Nick Pederson had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mortimer Plumbtree!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Skip Squint and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pederson throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Plumbtree was covering up waiting for the punch and Pederson finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Plumbtree wants to stand up but Pederson is controlling him.
Plumbtree really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pederson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Pederson is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Pederson won't allow Plumbtree to get back to his feet.
Pederson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Plumbtree swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Plumbtree wants to stand up but Pederson is controlling him.
Pederson works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Pederson drops an elbow to the side of Plumbtree's head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Plumbtree is staying active underneath Pederson, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

and Pederson decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Plumbtree's guard.

Plumbtree is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Pederson stands and throws Plumbtree's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Plumbtree bucks up and tries to throw Pederson off but instead Pederson has got his back!

Plumbtree has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.
Pederson is riding his opponent, not letting Plumbtree buck him off.
Plumbtree controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Pederson is looking to take a break and control but Plumbtree is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The referee asks Pederson politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Pederson prefers to stall for the moment though.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Plumbtree can do anything to dispel that myth.

Plumbtree misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Plumbtree throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Pederson on the side of the head.

Pederson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Pederson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
