Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vlad Impaler! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Greg Mungo! The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Frank Dennis and Robert Twigg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mungo misses with an uppercut
and Impaler counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Impaler sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Mungo defending well though. Impaler thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mungo can do anything to dispel that myth. Impaler trying to pass the guard but Mungo defending well. Mungo has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Impaler is working away from the top position though. Mungo is refusing to be controlled, as Impaler sits in half guard. Mungo holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now. Impaler controlling the pace. Mungo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Impaler. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Mungo misses with a left hand and Impaler counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Impaler controls from within his opponent's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Impaler thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Impaler looking to pass the guard. Mungo preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Impaler drops back looking for a leg! Mungo is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Mungo manages to kick Impaler off! Impaler jumps back into Mungo's guard. Impaler pushing down on Mungo's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Mungo blocking the ground and pound attempt from Impaler. Impaler passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Mungo! Impaler thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage. Impaler is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Mungo to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Mungo shrugs it off. Impaler takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Impaler looking to control but Mungo is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Impaler scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Impaler avoids the attempt from Mungo to control. Mungo is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Impaler controlling from the full mount. Impaler has hold of Mungo's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Mungo manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Impaler throwing shots from mount but they're not landing. Impaler tries to control but Mungo wriggling away. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Vlad Impaler dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

and Impaler counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Impaler is thwarting Mungo's attempts to control the position. Nice strikes from Impaler there. Impaler thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Mungo's head. Vlad Impaler overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Impaler passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Mungo! Mungo is squirming around, avoiding Impaler's attempts to control the action. Impaler thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

That's one minute gone in the round. Mungo is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Mungo defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Impaler. Impaler is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Mungo can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Impaler is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Mungo has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Impaler lands a nice shot to the head. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Impaler thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Impaler trying to control but Mungo is having none of it. Impaler takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Impaler throws some wild stikes that Mungo manages to avoid easily.
Impaler has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Impaler controlling his opponent. Mungo is squirming around, avoiding Impaler's attempts to control the action.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Impaler takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Impaler landing strikes, looking to finish! Impaler lands a heavy elbow. Mungo wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Impaler.
A nice elbow there by Impaler. Impaler wants to finish this one by submission but Mungo is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Impaler. Impaler throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Impaler landing strikes from the mount and Mungo is in trouble! Impaler trying to control but Mungo is having none of it. Impaler is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Impaler extends the arm and Mungo is forced to tap!
