PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Curtis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Venge Renage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Johnny Curtis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Venge Renage!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Wagner Zegers and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Curtis throws a left and a right that both miss

and Renage counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Curtis wants to get back to his feet.
Renage wants to pass the guard but Curtis is defending well.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Renage has eaten all the pies!

Curtis manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Curtis gets off balance looking for a body kick

so Renage counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Renage has gone for a leg lock! Curtis slips out almost immediately though and dives into Renage's guard.
Curtis throws and elbow that misses. Renage uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Curtis's guard. Nice move by Renage!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Curtis wants to stand up but Renage is controlling him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Renage drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Renage jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Curtis pushes Renage off and scrambles back to his feet.
Curtis lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Curtis closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Curtis throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Curtis will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Renage kicks off Curtis and gets to his feet.
Curtis closes the distance but Renage moves to the side

and Renage counters with a nice double leg into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Curtis wants to stand but Renage is controlling the position.
Curtis is breathing heavily.

Renage is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Renage is pushing down on Curtis's leg trying to pass to half guard. Curtis is fighting to maintain full guard but Renage has managed to sneak the leg through.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Renage moves into full mount! Curtis won't be happy about that!

Renage moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Curtis has worked his arm free - good work by Curtis!

Renage tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Renage has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Renage trying to control the position but Curtis is working away.

Renage is trying to get an arm triangle but Curtis is defending well.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Renage tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Venge Renage dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Curtis looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Renage wants to get back to his feet.
Curtis thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Renage's head.
Curtis is looking to stall here but Renage recovers full guard.
Curtis trying to control but Renage is working from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Curtis would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Renage pushes Curtis off and scrambles back to his feet.
Curtis tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Renage counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Renage wants to take a breather but Curtis is having none of it.

Renage is looking for a kimura but Curtis is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Renage to get the leverage.

Curtis is defending against the submission attempts here by Renage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Renage passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Curtis!

Renage is working for a guillotine from mount but Curtis frees his head quite easily.

Renage jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Curtis is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Curtis and Renage has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Renage thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Venge Renage showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Renage is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Curtis sees it coming and defends easily.
Curtis wants to get back to his feet.

Curtis knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Renage on the ground.

Curtis tries to kick Renage off but Renage keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Renage looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Curtis pushes Renage off looking to stand but Renage dives back in and keeps control.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Renage is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Curtis is just riding it out for now. Renage eventually gives up the hold.
Venge Renage is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Renage controlling the pace.

And that's the end of the fight!
Venge Renage comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Renage winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
