PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Epik Fail (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Slava Vitruk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Epik Fail!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Slava Vitruk!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Aleksandr Martynov and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fail tries to clinch up

so Vitruk counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Fail looking for a sweep. Not yet Fail, not yet.

Fail has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Vitruk can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Fail is looking for a triangle but Vitruk pushes his legs off easily.

Fail looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Vitruk slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Vitruk gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Vitruk shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Fail manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Fail keeping moving, preventing Vitruk from controlling successfully.

Fail has his foot on Vitruk's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Vitruk works his way back into a safe position though.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Fail thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Vitruk is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Vitruk is pushing down on Fail's leg trying to pass to half guard. Fail is fighting to maintain full guard but Vitruk has managed to sneak the leg through.
Fail is looking for a sweep. Vitruk is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Fail knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Vitruk on the ground.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Vitruk connects with a nice short shot to Fail's temple.
Vitruk wants to lay and pray for a moment but Fail keeps working.
Vitruk seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Vitruk wants to pass to mount but Fail is defending the position.

Vitruk is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Fail sees it coming and defends easily.
Fail tries to get to full guard but Vitruk has control of the leg.

Vitruk decides to stand and escape the position.
Vitruk fails to land the takedown.

and Vitruk counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Fail looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Vitruk controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Vitruk has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Vitruk stands up from Fail's guard - Vitruk perhaps looking for a knockout.

Vitruk shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Fail napping and manages to drive through into side control!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Fail takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Fail is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Vitruk's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Fail tries to roll over but Vitruk keeps him under control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Fail is breathing heavily.
Vitruk moves into full mount! Fail won't be happy about that!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Slava Vitruk dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Vitruk tries to score a power double leg takedown but Fail sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Vitruk somewhat.

Fail looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Vitruk pushes past his half guard into mount!
Vitruk lands a heavy elbow.
Vitruk fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Vitruk is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Fail can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

The referee warns Fail that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Fail is squirming around, avoiding Vitruk's attempts to control the action.

Vitruk is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Fail has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Fail is trying to get back to his feet but can't.

Vitruk looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Fail tries to reverse the position but Vitruk maintains control.
Fail is working hard here to advance position.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Fail is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Vitruk closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Fail's guard.

Fail had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Vitruk defends it easily.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Slava Vitruk showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Fail changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Vitruk fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Fail working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Vitruk doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Vitruk manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Vitruk drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Vitruk jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Fail is on top in guard.
Fail trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Fail is looking to work some ground and pound but Vitruk has wrist control.
Fail has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Fail postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Vitruk is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Fail, into his guard.
Vitruk slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Vitruk has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Fail is working to avoid the ground and pound but Vitruk connects with a decent elbow.
