Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Evan Steel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jay Burch!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Steel misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Steel slaps away a takedown attempt from Burch, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Steel really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Steel tries to close the distance and clinch up but Burch swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Burch gets caught napping as Steel dives in and scores a takedown. Burch manages to retain guard.
Steel wants to control from the top but Burch keeps moving.
Burch manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Steel manages to get himself to full guard.
Burch looks gassed!
Steel has his hands on Burch's head, controlling the position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Burch is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Steel has managed to free his arm - good work.
Steel keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Steel slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Steel had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Burch defends it easily.
Steel is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Steel has a closed guard, preventing Burch from standing up.

Burch got a little sloppy there for a moment and Steel has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Burch has managed to get both his arms back between Steel's legs - danger averted.
Steel is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Steel escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Burch gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Steel is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Burch defends well.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Steel is trying to control the position from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Burch plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Burch ducks under a wild hook from Steel.

Burch tries to close the distance and clinch but Steel swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Burch drives through with a takedown into guard.
Steel tries to land a sweep but no joy.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Steel holds on and takes a little breather.

Burch stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Steel swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jay Burch was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Steel gets tackled into the cage by Burch. Burch maintains the clinch.
The referee is keeping an eye on Steel - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Burch tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Burch with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Steel can't find room to land a body shot as Burch controls the action.

Steel works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Burch looking to hit a scissor sweep but Steel is one step ahead there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Burch keeping moving, preventing Steel from controlling successfully.

Steel is keen to just control but Burch is a slippery customer.

Burch is in a horrible position here. Steel smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Steel closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Burch to the mat! Burch manages to get full guard.

Steel swings for the body but Burch moves out of range.

Burch defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Steel.
Steel fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Burch manages to avoid it.
Steel tries to close the distance and clinch up but Burch swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Burch looks for a takedown but Steel sprawls well.
Burch keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Burch has closed the distance and engaged Steel in a clinch.
Steel tries to pull guard but Burch holds him up against the cage and eventually Steel drops back down to his feet.

Steel is looking to take a break and control but Burch is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Burch makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Burch tries to score a power double leg takedown but Steel sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Burch somewhat.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Burch tries a head kick but it misses.
Steel misses with a head kick.
Steel fails with a takedown attempt.
Burch shoots in but Steel avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Burch lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Steel jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Burch shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Steel as he avoids it easily.
Steel moves in looking to clinch but Burch pushes him off.
Jay Burch has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Evan Steel is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Evan Steel showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Steel, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
