The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rexum scores with a three punch combo!
It looks like Will Shuler has been cut.
Shuler is looking to clinch but Rexum is avoiding it.
Shuler gets a takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Rexum looking for submissions off his back.
Rexum wants to improve his position but Shuler is controlling well.
Rexum is trying to control but can't.
Shuler tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Shuler throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Shuler wants to pass the guard but Rexum is defending well.

Rexum wants to sweep here but Shuler controlling him for the moment.
Rexum bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Shuler's guard.
Rexum slips nicely into half guard.
Rexum tries to pass to full mount but Shuler defends it.
Shuler is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Rexum thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Rexum is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Shuler won't allow Rexum to pass to mount.

Shuler is controlling Rexum's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Shuler is staying active underneath Rexum, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Rexum takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Shuler wants to get back to his feet.
Shuler won't allow Rexum to pass to mount.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Rexum is looking for a kimura here.
Rexum has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Shuler defend it? Rexum steps over the head and cranks it - Shuler is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Rexum!
