PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mini Me (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joey De Andreas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). De Andreas has chosen Free Bird by Leonard Skynard as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Joey De Andreas was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Mini Me!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joey De Andreas!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Trevor Gratis and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Me misses with a hook
and Me takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Me wants to clinch but De Andreas slips to the side

and De Andreas counters with a single leg into guard. Me didn't expect that.
De Andreas stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Me swivels though and keeps the full guard.

De Andreas has gone for a leg lock! Me slips out almost immediately though and dives into De Andreas's guard.
Me wants to get up but he can't break De Andreas's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Me avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

De Andreas escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Me gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's one minute gone in the round.

De Andreas working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Me has passed into half guard!
The fighters are battling for position here. De Andreas manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

De Andreas looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Me has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of De Andreas is proving hard to escape from.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Me got a little sloppy there for a moment and De Andreas has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Me has managed to get both his arms back between De Andreas's legs - danger averted.
Me tries to stand but De Andreas is controlling from the bottom.
Me knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for De Andreas on the ground.

De Andreas has an active guard here but Me has managed to pass into half guard.
De Andreas gets full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
De Andreas has a closed guard, preventing Me from standing up.

De Andreas working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Me doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Me manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

De Andreas looking for a guillotine here but Me defends easily.
Me has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

De Andreas has an active guard here but Me has managed to pass into half guard.

Me closes the distance looking to clinch

and De Andreas counters with a shoot takedown. Me fights it but they end up in guard.
Me can't keep his opponent in guard - De Andreas advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

De Andreas is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
De Andreas trying to control the action but Me is working from the bottom.
De Andreas is looking to pass Me's guard but actually Me recovers to full guard.
Me on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Me tries to get out of the position.

De Andreas pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Me is keeping the position for now.
De Andreas trying to move into half guard but instead Me has managed to sweep!

De Andreas has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Me can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

De Andreas had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Me defends it easily.

De Andreas escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Me gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

De Andreas looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Me is defending well. De Andreas quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Me has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! De Andreas celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:34 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Joey De Andreas!
