The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zizou tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Staton manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
The fighters circling - Staton throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Staton looks to land a left hand but Zizou moved out of range nicely.
Zizou misses with a hook to the body
and Staton counters with a slapping leg kick.

and Staton counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Staton lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Zizou circles away quickly and effectively.

and Zizou takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Nice straight punches there by Staton. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Staton.
Staton throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Staton lands with a hook. Zizou tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Zizou takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Zizou walks into a stiff left hand from Staton.

and Staton counters with a nice low kick that buckles Zizou's knee momentarily.
Staton rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Zizou counters with a straight right hand.
Staton lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Zizou at a distance.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Staton.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Staton dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Zizou. That did some damage!

Zizou moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

and Staton counters with a low kick, right behind Zizou 's knee.
Henri Zizou seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

enabling Staton to counter with a crisp jab.

This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Zizou. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.

Zizou takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
A nice inside leg kick there by Staton. That's going to slow Zizou down.

Zizou looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.
Zizou closes the distance but Staton moves to the side
and Staton counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Zizou moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Jeremy Staton is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

and Staton counters with an outside leg kick.
Zizou on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Zizou is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Zizou tries to move into range but Staton moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

and Staton counters with a nice low kick that buckles Zizou's knee momentarily.
Staton misses with a jab, cross combination.
Staton lands a nice shot that snaps Zizou's head back.

Staton drops Zizou with a beautiful combination! Zizou stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Staton is looking for the KO!

It looks like Henri Zizou has been cut.
Staton scores with a shot to the body.
Oh Zizou is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Staton throws a nice outside leg kick.
Staton has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Staton lands with a shot to the body.
Zizou seems to have got his legs back now.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
A left lands for Staton.
Staton connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Staton connects with a single shot there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jab, jab by Staton - just one landing.
Staton feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Zizous jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Zizou has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Staton finds it's way round the side to connect with Zizou's head.
This entire fight has taken place on the feet so far and you wonder whether Zizou might be better served trying to take this one to the ground because he's losing the standup battle so far.

and Staton counters with a good low kick that Zizou was not able to check.
Staton lands a head kick. Zizou smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

and Staton counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Zizou wants to clinch but Staton slips to the side
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Staton connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Oooooh!!! Staton has knocked Zizou down with a huge combo! Staton steps away and waves a wobbly Zizou back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
