PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Aleksandr Mogilev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Igor Zawada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Igor Zawada will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Aleksandr Mogilev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Igor Zawada!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and .




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mogilev throws a sloppy head kick and Zawada moves out of range easily.
Mogilev dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Zawada. That did some damage!
Zawada throws a leg kick
and Mogilev counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

and Mogilev counters with a shoot takedown. Zawada fights it but they end up in guard.

Mogilev drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Zawada manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Mogilev has Zawada in his guard.
Mogilev lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Zawada!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mogilev goes for an armbar but Zawada turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Zawada.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Mogilev pushes Zawada off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Mogilev feints and as Zawada raises his hands in defense, Mogilev changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Zawada has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Mogilev is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Zawada.

Mogilev is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Zawada is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Mogilev is breathing heavily.
A lull in the action here as Mogilev stalls from top position.
Zawada pushes Mogilev away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Mogilev gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Zawada tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Mogilev wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The ground and pound from Mogilev seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Mogilev stands up and beckons Zawada to his feet.

Mogilev shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Ground and pound from Mogilev.
Mogilev is figuring out what he wants to do next.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mogilev is looking to take a break and control but Zawada is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Mogilev stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Zawada misses with a two punch combination.
Mogilev moves out of range of the strikes.

Mogilev looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Zawada wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Mogilev manages to pass to side control.
Mogilev drops an elbow to the side of Zawada's head.

Mogilev is looking for a kimura here.
Mogilev working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mogilev takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Mogilev trying to pass the guard but Zawada defending well.

Zawada pushes Mogilev off and gets back to his feet.

Mogilev gets the takedown into side control.
Zawada is not content to let Mogilev control the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Zawada gets back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Aleksandr Mogilev dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

and Mogilev counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Zawada is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Mogilev is aware though and is defending well.
Mogilev is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Mogilev trying to control but Zawada is working from the bottom.
Mogilev is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Zawada is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

We're going to have a standup here because Aleksandr Mogilev wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Mogilev tries to clinch
and Zawada counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

Zawada keeps the fight on the outside.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Zawada.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Mogilev is looking for a sweep.
Mogilev is trying to control Zawada's posture but Zawada avoids it.
Mogilev is looking to reverse the position.
Mogilev is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Zawada's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Mogilev has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Zawada is working away from the top position though.
Mogilev is looking to escape.
Zawada wants to pass to mount but Mogilev is defending the position.

Zawada stands up and beckons Mogilev to join him on the feet.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Zawada shoots and misses

and Mogilev counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Mogilev.
Mogilev has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Zawada thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Mogilev stands and steps away. Zawada gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Mogilev wants to lay and pray for a moment but Zawada keeps working.

and Mogilev counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Mogilev.

Zawada looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Zawada avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Mogilev stops Zawada from standing up.
Zawada wants to sweep but no luck.

Mogilev thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Zawada is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a tringle but Mogilev frees his head nicely. Oh but Zawada has switched to an armbar! Mogilev is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
