Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Said Alibekov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Batista! The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Bruno Lombardi and Dean Styles.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A combination from Batista does no damage. A head kick by Batista misses and Alibekov counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Batista stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Batista wants it to stay on the feet. Alibekov fails with a takedown attempt. Batista throws a low kick, looking for Alibekov's leg but Alibekov calmly moves out of range. Alibekov shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Batista counters with a stiff right hand.
It looks like Said Alibekov has been cut. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Said Alibekov. That's going to take a lot out of him. Alibekov tries to clinch up enabling Batista to counter with a crisp jab. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Batista ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Alibekov moves away. Alibekov shoots in looking for a takedown. Batista tries to sprawl out of it but Alibekov keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Batista manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Batista dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Alibekov. That did some damage!

Batista goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Batista throws a nice looking combination but Alibekov bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Sloppy strikes from Batista. Those never looked like landing. Alibekov shoots in looking for a takedown. Batista tries to sprawl out of it but Alibekov keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Batista manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Alibekov digs a good hook to Batista's body.

and Alibekov counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Batista's guard now. Batista has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Alibekov has passed into side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Batista is looking for a sweep. Batista is letting Alibekov control him for a moment. Alibekov decides to stand back up. Alibekov tries to score a power double leg takedown but Batista sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Alibekov somewhat. Alibekov wants to clinch and Batista counters with a nice uppercut.

Batista leaves Alibekov with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. No joy there for Batista, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Said Alibekov's cut is getting worse. Alibekov shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Batista but Batista pushes him off and we're back to square one. A punch combination from Batista misses. Alibekov's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Batista connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Alibekov scrambles back to his feet. John Batista is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Alibekov takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. Alibekov slips a jab and a cross from Batista.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Alibekov dodges the punch combination from Batista.
Batista works over Alibekov's head and body with a nice combination. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Alibekov counters with a single leg into guard. Batista didn't expect that. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Batista can do anything to dispel that myth.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Batista keeping full guard, as Alibekov tries to pass. Alibekov working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Jeez, Said Alibekov's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked. Batista defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Alibekov.

Alibekov misses with a right hand and Batista counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Batista misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Alibekov shoots in for a takedown but Batista shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Alibekov blocks a head kick by Batista.
Batista throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Said Alibekov's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
