PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between adair anderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Charlie Conway (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). anderson's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, cant be touched. Both these fighters had to take extra time to make weight as they missed the initial 145lb limit. adair anderson came in at 146.0 and Charlie Conway came in at 146.8 but after the extra two hours, both guys managed to get within the one pound allowance. No doubt it will have affected them physically though, so let's see if that has an impact on the fight. adair anderson could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Charlie Conway's chin.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Charlie Conway!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Paulo Santos and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
anderson throws the left hand but Conway avoids the punch easily.
Conway tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but anderson paws at him with a jab and circles away.
anderson will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Charlie Conway seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Conway moves in looking to clinch but anderson pushes him off.
Conway doesn't manage to clinch there - anderson circles away.
anderson misses with the combination.
Conway wants to clinch up but anderson keeps it at a distance.
anderson misses with an attempted mid kick.

anderson drags the fight down to the ground.
anderson doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Conway is not content to let anderson control the position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

anderson wants to work for an arm triangle but Conway is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Conway closes the distance looking to clinch

and anderson counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Conway!

anderson wants to control the pace but Conway is squirming around nicely.

Conway tries to lock up and control but anderson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Conway is wriggling around trying to escape.

Conway is looking to control anderson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Conway avoid being mounted?

anderson drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
anderson tries to advance to mount but Conway denies him.
anderson lands a nice forearm strike.
anderson tries to move into full mount but can't pass Conway's legs.

anderson decides to stand back up. anderson steps back and let's Conway get back to his feet.

anderson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Conway to the mat! Conway manages to get full guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Conway is on top in guard.
Conway postures up and lands a big shot to anderson's brow.

Conway tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and anderson counters with a shoot takedown. Conway fights it but they end up in guard.
anderson wants to get up but he can't break Conway's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Conway bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in anderson's guard.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as anderson holds on and takes a little breather.

adair anderson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
anderson can't keep his opponent in guard - Conway advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Conway moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, anderson has worked his arm free - good work by anderson!
anderson is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Conway thows a huge punch but anderson dodges it nicely.

Conway looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks anderson with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and anderson counters with a nice double leg into side control. Conway won't be happy with that.

anderson drops back looking for a leg! Conway is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Conway manages to kick anderson off! anderson jumps back into Conway's guard.
anderson not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
anderson trying to control the position from guard on top but Conway is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Conway wants to sweep here but anderson controlling him for the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
anderson scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!


Conway is rocked!
Conway takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Conway is still on wobbly legs! Can anderson finish him?
Conway darts in trying to clinch

and anderson counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Conway!
anderson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Conway seems to have recovered his senses.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
anderson cracks Conway with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Conway is looking to improve his position but anderson isn't that keen on the idea.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and anderson counters by moving into the clinch.
With the fighters up against the cage, anderson throws an elbow but misses.

Conway takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

anderson decides to stand back up. anderson steps back and let's Conway get back to his feet.
anderson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Conway tries to roll over but anderson keeps him under control.
Conway flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Conway takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

anderson is looking to advance position but Conway won't allow it.

anderson wants to control but Conway is keeping him busy.

The fighters are battling for position here. Conway manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Conway had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. anderson is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Conway Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take anderson's back instead.
Conway is trying to stick to anderson's back but anderson is turning into Conway. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Conway's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by anderson.

Conway is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of anderson's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take anderson's back!

Well anderson has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
