Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Pierre La Plante!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Steve Smith and Yves DeLean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Clapper lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but La Plante circles away quickly and effectively.
Rusty Clapper seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
La Plante just misses with a punch to the body.
Clapper fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Clapper misses with a takedown
and La Plante holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Clapper breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Nice takedown defense from La Plante. No joy for Clapper on that attempt.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and La Plante counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rusty Clapper. That's going to take a lot out of him.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Clapper is on top in guard.
La Plante working for a triangle but Clapper defends it easily.

La Plante tries to bench press Clapper off him but Clapper keeps the position.
La Plante is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Clapper asserts his dominance and retains side control.
La Plante tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Clapper presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Clapper tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
La Plante keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Clapper working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. La Plante turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Clapper off and cradles La Plante's limp body as Clapper celebrates with his corner.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:39 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Rusty Clapper!
