Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mark Rua! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, James Woods! The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Reed Andrews and David Schapiro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rua tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Woods manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Rua misses with a head kick.

Woods fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Woods blocks a head kick by Rua.
Rua tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Woods lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Rua tries to clinch up. Woods circles away from the clinch attempt and Woods counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Rua's guard now. Rua wants to stand up but Woods is controlling him. Rua keeping moving, preventing Woods from controlling successfully. Rua trying to control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Woods pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rua is keeping the position for now. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Woods wants to control from the top but Rua keeps moving.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. A head kick misses from Rua. Rua looks to clinch and Woods makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Rua wants to clinch up but Woods keeps it at a distance. Woods connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Rua's hands. Woods circles away from the clinch attempt and Woods counters with a stiff right hand.

Rua moves to clinch but Woods breaks away and Woods counters with a series of strikes. Rua will be more careful next time no doubt. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Woods scores with a nice right hand.

Woods tries for a takedown but Rua sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Woods throws a hook but Rua avoids it easily. Mark Rua is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Woods lands a two punch combo.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Woods fails with a takedown attempt. Mark Rua has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Woods. Rua moves in looking to clinch but Woods pushes him off. Rua gets a clinch. Rua wants to stall.
Rua seems a little flustered. He's come in with the intention of controlling the clinch but Woods is preventing him from doing so, at least for the moment. Woods lands with a light punch inside. Woods misses with some punches.

Woods tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Rua's elbow. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Come on Rua - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Woods lands with a right to the head. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Woods tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Woods wants to free his trapped foot but Rua is holding on for dear life with his legs. Woods sitting and controlling from the half guard. Woods looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Rua has hold of Woods's hands but Woods slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Woods is looking to pass Rua's guard but actually Rua recovers to full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Rua holds on and takes a little breather.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Woods working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Rua keeping moving, preventing Woods from controlling successfully. OK we're going to have a standup here. James Woods hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Rua misses with a head kick.
Woods throws a looping overhand right but Rua ducks down to avoid it. Rua moves in looking to clinch but Woods pushes him off. Rua tries to clinch but Woods is having none of it. Rua tries to clinch up. Woods shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Woods seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rua does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Rua keeping hold of Woods's head, controlling as best he can. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Woods lands a nice short elbow.

Rua is not content to let Woods control the position. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Rua is looking for a sweep. Woods is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Woods throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Woods trying to control the action but Rua is working from the bottom. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Woods is nestled in close to Rua, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Woods is looking to advance position but Rua won't allow it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
James Woods showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! And we move into the final round!

Woods shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Woods working the ground and pound effectively.
Rua is rocked! Woods cracks Rua with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:48 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). James Woods!
