PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between James Rilla (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cup Cake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Rilla!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cup Cake!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Daniel Franklin and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cake lands with a hook. Rilla tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Rilla feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Cake looking to hit a scissor sweep but Rilla is one step ahead there.

Rilla drops back looking for a leg! Cake is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Cake manages to kick Rilla off! Rilla jumps back into Cake's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rilla is working Cake over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Rilla postures up in Cake's guard and throws a big left but Cake blocks it.
Rilla wants to pass the guard but Cake is keeping the position.
Cake trying to strike off his back.
Cake is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Rilla has gone for a leg lock! Cake slips out almost immediately though and dives into Rilla's guard.
Cake won't allow Rilla to sweep him here.

Rilla is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Rilla is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Cake works his way to full guard. Good work.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Cake holds on and takes a little breather.

Rilla is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Cake has managed to free his arm - good work.

Rilla has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Cake looking for a sweep. Not yet Cake, not yet.
Cake keeping full guard, as Rilla tries to pass.
Rilla works over Cake with some ground and pound from guard.
Cake wants to stand but Rilla is controlling the position.
Rilla distracts Cake with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Rilla postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Rilla wants to pass the guard but Cake is keeping the position.
Rilla postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Cake working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Rilla.

Rilla drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Rilla jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Rilla connects with a couple of short punches.
Rilla working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rilla trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Rilla throwing strikes from guard but Cake blocks nicely.

Rilla is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Rilla shoots in and drives through. Cake sprawls well.
Rilla fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Cake looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Rilla!
Rilla is trying desperately to improve position.
Rilla manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Rilla misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Rilla gets full guard.

Rilla has his foot on Cake's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Cake works his way back into a safe position though.
Cake must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Cake is sitting in close to Rilla's body. Rilla has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Cake is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Cake is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Rilla.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). James Rilla!
