PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ray Johnstone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ramon Bautista (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ray Johnstone!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ramon Bautista!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Johnstone decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Johnstone is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Bautista sees it coming and defends easily.
Bautista slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Bautista keeping moving, preventing Johnstone from controlling successfully.
Johnstone throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Johnstone looking to sit in guard and control but Bautista gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Bautista avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Bautista not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Johnstone working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bautista doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bautista manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Johnstone knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bautista on the ground.

Johnstone looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Bautista has picked Johnstone up and slammed him! Johnstone can't keep hold of the triangle and Bautista manages to pass to side control!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Johnstone is breathing heavily.
Johnstone seems a little lost for a moment, as Bautista dominates the positioning.
Johnstone takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Bautista has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Bautista forces Johnstone back against the cage and clinches.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Bautista tightens his grip and picks Johnstone up, before dumping him to the ground. Johnstone manages to land in guard.
Bautista is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Bautista wants to control from the top but Johnstone keeps moving.
Bautista lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Bautista stands up and waves to Johnstone to follow him.
Ray Johnstone seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Bautista gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Johnstone is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Bautista is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Bautista has escaped and now he's on top!

Bautista is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Bautista passes Johnstone's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Bautista slows the pace down in half guard.
Bautista tries to pass the half guard into mount. Johnstone knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ramon Bautista dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Johnstone gets a clinch.

Bautista pulls Johnstone into guard.
Bautista has Johnstone pulled in close to control his posture.

Johnstone has gone for a leg lock! Bautista slips out almost immediately though and dives into Johnstone's guard.

Johnstone escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bautista gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Bautista slips nicely into half guard.
Bautista stalling.
Johnstone is looking to improve his position.
Johnstone on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Johnstone tries to get out of the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Johnstone trying to control but Bautista postures up.
Bautista with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Bautista frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Bautista can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Johnstone is looking to escape.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Johnstone is trying desperately to improve position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Bautista can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Johnstone is looking to escape.
Johnstone really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Bautista connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ramon Bautista showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Johnstone is looking for a sweep.
Johnstone is working hard here to advance position.

Bautista is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Johnstone is trying to escape and Bautista transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Johnstone is forced to tap! Nice work there by Bautista! Very nice indeed!
