Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Marquinho Pirassununga (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Punto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Marquinho Pirassununga has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Marquinho Pirassununga!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, James Punto!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Bruno Hogan and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pirassununga misses with a takedown attempt

and Punto counters with a shoot takedown. Pirassununga fights it but they end up in guard.
Punto must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Punto lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Pirassununga is working an open guard so Punto takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

and Punto makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Punto wants to clinch up but Pirassununga keeps it at a distance.

Punto is trying to break the clinch but Pirassununga has him pressed against the cage.

Punto jumps guard and drags Pirassununga to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Pirassununga drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Punto manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Pirassununga has Punto in his guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pirassununga can't keep his opponent in guard - Punto advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Punto looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Pirassununga with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Punto seems to be looking for submissions.
Punto trying to control from half guard but Pirassununga is working away.
Punto passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Pirassununga!
Pirassununga is looking to improve his position but Punto isn't that keen on the idea.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Pirassununga is desperately trying to improve his position but Punto has a good base and remains in mount.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Pirassununga is squirming around, avoiding Punto's attempts to control the action.
Punto looking to control and managing it successfully.

OK we're going to have a standup here. James Punto hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

A short right hand to the side of the head by Punto.

Punto's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
James Punto seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Punto shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Punto was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Punto is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Punto extends the arm and Pirassununga is forced to tap!
