Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Frank Murr! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Cannon Cage! The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Igor Prikhodko and Aleksandr Martynov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Murr bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Murr tries to move into full mount but can't pass Cage's legs. Murr stands up and beckons Cage to his feet. Murr moves in looking to clinch but Cage pushes him off. Left hook, right uppercut from Cage. Cage scores with a push kick. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Murr takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Cage gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Murr counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Murr. Cage pulls guard effortlessly. Cage working a defensive guard here.
Murr has gone for a leg lock! Cage slips out almost immediately though and dives into Murr's guard. Cage working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cage trying to control the position from guard on top but Murr is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Cage has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Murr is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Cage trying to control but Murr is working from the bottom. Murr is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Murr looking for a guillotine here but Cage defends easily.
Murr is breathing heavily.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground. Horrible takedown by Murr or perhaps it was just good defense by Cage which made him look bad.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Murr shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Cage counters with a left to the body. Cage with a lazy takedown attempt and Murr counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Cage missing with punches from the bottom.
Murr takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Murr in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Cage tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Murr!
