The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hatfield avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Hatfield connects with a right hand. Potter shakes it off. Hatfield lands with a straight right. Potter didn't see that one coming. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Potter is defended easily by Hatfield. Potter has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. Hatfield swats away the attempt to clinch by Potter. Hatfield moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. Potter moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
That's one minute gone in the round. Potter takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Potter throws a leg kick and Potter takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Potter shoots in and drives through. Hatfield sprawls well. A nice leg kick lands there from Potter. Potter looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Potter throws a leg kick that is checked letting Hatfield counter with a right hand. Potter instigates a clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Hatfield scores with a nice hook to the head. Potter pulls guard effortlessly. Potter escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hatfield gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Hatfield working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Hatfield works over Potter with some ground and pound from guard. That's three minutes gone in the round. Hatfield is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Potter keeping full guard, as Hatfield tries to pass. Hatfield postures up in Potter's guard and throws a big left but Potter blocks it. Hatfield seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Potter not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Matt Hatfield has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Hatfield moves into range and connects with a jab.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A punch lands to the side of Potter 's head but he takes it in his stride. Hatfield waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Potter. Hatfield might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable. Potter takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Hatfield lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Potter walks into a jab. Potter looks to land a body kick but Hatfield moved away. Hatfield catches Potter with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! Hatfield scores with a jab. Hatfield scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

That's one minute gone in the round. Hatfield throws a jab but it's blocked by Potter. Hatfield lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. Hatfield jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Hatfield comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Potter wants to clinch. Potter swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

That's two minutes gone in the round. A cross from Hatfield lands. Potter fails with the takedown letting Hatfield counter with a right hand. Hatfield with a jab. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Hatfield fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Potter on the side of the head. Hatfield uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Potter walks into a straight right hand from Hatfield. Hatfield lands a body shot.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Hatfield lunges at Potter with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Potter's hand. Hatfield lands a jab. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Potter needs to keep his hands up - Hatfield had a free shot at his head there. Hatfield keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Potter closes this distance looking for a takedown but Hatfield circles away. Matt Hatfield is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Hatfield looks to land a combination. Potter sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots. Potter takes one to the side of the head.

Potter tries to clinch but Hatfield moves away and Hatfield counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Potter walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. No luck with that takedown attempt from Potter. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ross Potter. That's going to take a lot out of him. Hatfield lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Potter backs up against the cage.
Matt Hatfield seems to be getting the better of the standup. Potter drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. Hatfield moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Hatfield throws a right and a left that both miss. Potter takes a jab right on the kisser.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Potter takes one to the chin there. Hatfield listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. Potter moves forwards but Hatfield connects with a nice, crisp jab. Hatfield lunges at Potter with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Potter's hand. Potter looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that. Hatfield takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Potter shoots in and drives through. Hatfield sprawls well. Potter on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. Hatfield has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Hatfield's jab looks to have found its range, popping Potter under the eye. This has been an exciting period of action! Potter takes one to the chin there. Matt Hatfield is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
