PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Arzuman Asadov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Janno Gibbs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Asadov's entrance music is Arzuman Entrance Song. A fine choice. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Janno Gibbs was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Arzuman Asadov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Janno Gibbs!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, John Mangel and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gibbs tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Gibbs throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

and Asadov counters with a nice double leg into side control. Gibbs won't be happy with that.

Asadov wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Gibbs, who protects the arm well.

Asadov tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Asadov has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
You can see the frustration on Gibbs's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Asadov goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Gibbs rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Asadov's guard! Nice work there by Gibbs!
Asadov is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Asadov wants to work for an arm triangle but Gibbs is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Asadov is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Asadov closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Gibbs to the mat! Gibbs manages to get full guard.

Asadov looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Gibbs with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Asadov is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Gibbs is just riding it out for now. Asadov eventually gives up the hold.
Asadov is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Gibbs is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Asadov is controlling him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Asadov is looking to work some ground and pound but Gibbs has wrist control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Asadov has gone for a leg lock! Gibbs slips out almost immediately though and dives into Asadov's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Asadov is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Gibbs defends well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Asadov is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Asadov has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gibbs can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Gibbs drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Asadov manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Gibbs has Asadov in his guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Asadov pushes down on Gibbs's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Asadov thows a huge punch but Gibbs dodges it nicely.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Janno Gibbs hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Asadov closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Gibbs's guard.

Asadov is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Gibbs is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Gibbs has escaped and now he's on top!

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Arzuman Asadov is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Asadov working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gibbs doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gibbs manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Asadov, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
