PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jermaine Choake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Richard Callaghan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Choake comes to the cage accompanied by Hans Zimmer - The Kraken. Richard Callaghan has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jermaine Choake!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Richard Callaghan!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, John Mangel and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Callaghan scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Choake fails with an attempt to clinch.
Good standup being displayed there by Callaghan as he connects with a hook.
Choake looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
A good leg kick by Callaghan.

Callaghan drops Choake with a right and a left! Callaghan comes rushing in but Choake regains his composure and manages to keep Callaghan in guard.


Choake is rocked!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Callaghan advances to half guard.
Choake moves into full guard.
Choake controls Callaghan momentarily but Callaghan frees himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Callaghan throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Choake works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Callaghan content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Callaghan makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Oh Choake is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Callaghan trying to control the position from guard on top but Choake is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Choake seems to have got his legs back now.
Callaghan scoring with punches to the head and body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Callaghan wants to control from the top but Choake keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Callaghan lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Callaghan working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Callaghan trying to control the position from guard on top but Choake is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Callaghan won't allow Choake to sweep him here.
Callaghan postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Callaghan with a flurry of punches that miss.
Callaghan is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Choake looking for a sweep. Not yet Choake, not yet.
Callaghan wants to control from the top but Choake keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Choake preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Callaghan looking to sit in guard and control but Choake gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Callaghan trying to keep a closed guard but Choake is proving a slippery customer.
Choake stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Callaghan swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Callaghan can't keep his opponent in guard - Choake advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Choake has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Choake trying to control but Callaghan is having none of it.
Callaghan is trying desperately to improve position.
Choake looking to control but Callaghan is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Choake sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Callaghan is squirming around, avoiding Choake's attempts to control the action.
Callaghan tries to lock up and control but Choake gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Choake can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Callaghan is looking to escape.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Callaghan tries to get back to half guard but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Richard Callaghan dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Callaghan scores with a nice strike.
Callaghan lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Callaghan lands with a slapping head kick.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
A short left from Callaghan.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Callaghan.
Callaghan lands a left hand.
A nice right hand lands inside from Callaghan.
Callaghan has the Thai clinch. He lands a big knee to the head that stumbles Choake - he's in trouble! Another big knee to the head from Callaghan, and another! Choake is out on his feet - the ref jumps in to save him and ends the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:46 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Knees). Richard Callaghan!
