The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ballswick shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Nagiev as he avoids it easily.
Nagiev throws a lazy uppercut

and Ballswick counters with a single leg into guard. Nagiev didn't expect that.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Nagiev wants to stand and escape but Ballswick is having none of it.
Ballswick working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Ballswick throwing strikes but missing.

Ballswick gets to his feet - Nagiev follows without any prompting.
Nagiev throws a sloppy head kick and Ballswick moves out of range easily.
Nagiev thows a body shot but no joy.
Hellson Ballswick seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Ballswick shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Nagiev's guard.

Ballswick stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Nagiev swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Ballswick shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Nagiev eats them both and turns towards Ballswick to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Nagiev gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Ballswick to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Nagiev is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Nagiev trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Ballswick thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ballswick stands and throws Nagiev's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Nagiev is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Ballswick asserts his dominance and retains side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Ballswick tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Ballswick has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Ballswick is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Nagiev is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Ballswick swings around for an armbar but Nagiev sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Ballswick's guard.

Nagiev decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Ballswick, up you get!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
